@ippig It can be used as an offensive reference. I can't elaborate here.
I'd rather get rid of anything other than straightforward social & strategic phrases, tbh 😖

@ToastedSarnie I do want some silly ones (and posted a bunch), but not ones that can easily made into nasty sayings. Unfortunately the number of things that can be turned into nastiness when they were largely intended to be silly has increased in recent years.
I'm not happy I can't use 'chicken sighting' when I mean it in a goofy manner (or maybe we'll get chicken wrangler zombies someday), and people will assume I'm insulting them.
On PC you can't directly message people not on your friends list so you won't get some of the crazy nasty messages sent at you some people have shown elsewhere on consoles, but I did see some players targeting Zack Scott in his videos and one was using 'bye, bye bae" and others at him every time they vanquished him. This is why we can't have nice things.
- 6 years ago@Iron_Guard8 Yes, it's a sorry state to be in, that people twist darker meanings into words & phrases.
If you do know about those other things, though it can cause serious offence - the trouble is these are used as a way of disguising contempt or nastiness & you often have no way of knowing which way they're meant.
And if it's hard for those of who speak the same language, how much harder is it for those who don't? Many wouldn't understand the jokey phrase that was originally intended, let alone an alternate meaning.
So tricky! - Iron_Guard86 years agoLegend
@ToastedSarnie the day I can't just yell 'Sandwiches!' will be a dark day indeed.
Other expressions I'd like:
"By the pot on Dave's head!"
"Time to throw in the trowel." (this one could be taken as a mock but I love the pun)
"Look! Brainz!"
"B is for Brainz...I think?" (zombie joke)
"Yay! Sunlight!"
"L.E.A.F. agents, assemble!"
"Beware the gnomes!"
- Iron_Guard86 years agoLegend
More:
"Spring to it!" (more of a plant saying for obvious reasons)
"Shamble on, zombies!"
"I hear that mushrooms are fun guys!" (a fungi pun)
"Penny picks the tunes."
"Wait! The grass we're standing in is a plant too!" (zombies mostly)
"What missing shoe?" (zombies again)

I am having difficulty actually adding to this thread with nice and useful phrases as I am reeling from the shock of finding out alternative meanings to some of the, on the surface, "innocent" meanings to some expressions we already have in game.
@ippig has already discovered the taco alternative... and perhaps further research should be done on these words and phrases BEFORE they are included into a family game. As ippig points out the internet is a strange place and things are not always what they might seem.
Some of the alternative meanings are mind blowing and shocking... ranging from offensive to downright disgusting.
I cannot go into details here but suggest anyone interested uses the https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=The%20Urban%20Dictionary ...
and if you can cope with the result (DISCLAIMER: ADULTS ONLY)
perhaps start with the often times used and in fact encouraged by a well known youtuber "Beef Wellington" expression.
I can only imagine/hope that the Devs (and hopefully youtuber) are not aware of this alternative meaning but I do know that some people are aware.
I am still pondering a complaint about this I feel so strongly that words and expression with such "alternative" meanings shouldn't be included in a family game (in any game for that matter). I cannot for the life of me understand why such things would be included by the Devs (internet savvy people one would imagine). Every possible word/phrase should be researched to make sure that this doesn't happen.
It takes seconds to research and it blows my mind that this hasn't happened and I really do not want to believe that these were knowingly included in the game.
Edit: clarification - 6 years ago@asabaida I'm with you absolutely 👍

I have some more suggestions for this:
"Good morning"
"Good afternoon"
"Good evening"
"Good night"
"Happy St. Patrick's Day" - that's what Luck 'O The Zombie event represents.
etc. Apologies if some of these are already in-game!

Based on an earlier post elsewhere, here's one for @asabaida
"Bonkers!" 🥳

@Iron_Guard8
Why thanku good Sir..... I feel quite proud, Bonkers it is 😃🙌 - 6 years ago@asabaida Ahem! I used it first, madam!!! 🤣😂🤣
- 6 years ago
Ohhhhhh nooooooooo.....I'm not claiming the idea just accepting the title of "Bonkers"... which you stated you didn't want anyway 😃😃😃

I looked at the link earlier in the thread @asabaida and I hate seeing stuff that just sounds fun and silly having other uses. It's getting difficult to say anything these days dangit. I just loved the Everlasting Crown in GW2 saying it, I miss that voice. We need that crown back!
- 6 years ago@Iron_Guard8 Yes please! Add the phrase "All hail the Everlasting Crown" and then also please add the ACTUAL Everlasting Crown. I miss that more than I can express. It took the game to a new level for the entire family.
- 6 years ago@TLEsquire agreed, I loved that crown!
- 6 years ago@asabaida I think a bit of research should be invested, as you suggest, when and if the developers decide to include a phrase or image which has entered online meme culture because a lot of the time the source of that content gets lost over time as whatever it is enters the realm of pop culture.
Case in point, a couple of years ago our teenager was going around repeating a popular meme phrase which he had heard from his friends involving a character from a movie franchise that he liked without any idea of the context behind that phrase- I'm deliberately being vague here because the context is decidedly not family friendly.
He wound up adopting that meme phrase as his own personal catch phrase probably because all of his friends thought it was funny when he said it and I have no idea how long he was repeating it but one day be casually used it in my presence and I asked him if he knew the implications of what he was saying. Needless to say he was pretty horrified when I informed him.
I've had to educate him a couple of times with various things he's adopted as catchphrases since then.
But story telling aside, I don't think that everything needs to be researched because that's largely unnecessary and a waste of time and resources because if you look deep enough into anything and twist it around in your mind enough literally anything that might be added could be turned into a double entendre and you'll otherwise rule out harmlessly silly catchphrases. Don't go down that particular Internet rabbit hole because you probably won't like what you find.
At the end of the day, for the majority of people a Taco is just a kind of Mexican dish which Crazy Dave has for lunch. - 6 years ago@realitysquared Exactly, the taco is an important part about PvZ. Next thing is I find out "brain" is a dirty word.. oh wait.
- 6 years ago@realitysquared @asabaida isn't the only member of the forum who thinks there are issues with some of these though.
I've expressed concern that these innocent sounding emotes are being used in a nastier way & that has been clear to me by the behaviour of players using some of these & @spIash_damage had previously mentioned taco as an example.
With all respect, I understand the point you're making, but if we know some of these do have other meanings, then surely we should change things? - 6 years ago
@ToastedSarnie Some people don’t kill enough toxic players to see the issue with toxicity of taunting. Some people enjoy taunting and honestly don’t care about hurting other people’s feelings and/or whether children are online.
....There’s nothing you’ll say to those people, ESPECIALLY those who PvE only, to make them understand the issue. Couple that with those who’re children themselves and/or don’t have their own children, and it’s a lost cause trying to explain why these are morally out of place in the PvZ franchise.
I don’t care what anyone thinks, I don’t want to tell my 9 year old son why a toxic punk repetitively taunts poop, tacos, beef wellington, and cats but nothing else.
EDIT: autocorrect
