I think that this person deserves a "Bump" since he had this problem for a couple of weeks now.
Bumped thread.....
Thank you. Whenever I go to my customization and I customize my plants/zombies it doesnt save either. It shows my rank and money and everything else works fine. I have played this game for 100+ hours and have had no problem before. I have a quite powerful pc too, I play this game on ultra with a resolution of 1080p no problem, while running my second monitor. Here are my specs...
Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 770 TI
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
Cpu: Amd FX(tm)-6120 Six-Core Processor 3.50 Giga Hertz
Amount of ram: 10 Gigs
Windows 8 64-bit Operating System
Display: 2 Asus VE228H 21.5' 1080p MonitorsIf there is anymore information you need to figure out this problem be sure to tell me. Thanks ahead of time!
It seems to me that this would have to be network related and not your hardware.

The only thing I can think to try for your end that isn't network related is to RENAME your Documents/PvZ folder. It'll create a new one on relaunch. If it doesn't fix it, delete the new one and replace with the old one if you had non-default settings and don't want to set it up again.
Along the same lines... Copy the Origin Games/PvZ entire folder somewhere else. Open Origin and uninstall it. Close Origin. Copy the PvZ entire folder back. Open Origin and click "download" it will skip downloading and jump straight to installing. I would assume this would rewrite any files that are user based with default/stock values.
I assume you've tried repairs from within Origin, that'd be the quickest easiest thing to try first.

As I said first though.. it seems like it's something blocking a specific server the one that is responsible for serving up profile info. Possibly extra firewall software or software running that is mistaking it (maybe it updated rules automatically). Try closing things like that to test, narrow it down and add exceptions if that's the case.
Possibly change DNS to 8.8.8.8 // 8.8.4.4 (google dns)
To test you could sign up for a free trial of a VPN service. Most of them offer a segment of time to test it with no CC or payment info needed. This could help narrow it down if it doesn't do this when connected.
If you have a fancy router that has traffic shaping (marketed for gaming priority), I've heard that causes weird problems when it doesn't work right. I use something much different than a consumer router but I tried to do some traffic shaping of sorts and ended up with just a big mess that I ended up scrapping.
Perhaps try puting your IP/MAC in your router's DMZ to test. If it works then a port isn't forwarded or uPnP isn't working correctly.
The ones that pertain to the router would be the traffic shaping and the DMZ.
Traffic Shaping I doubt you have on your router if you aren't very familiar with what router you have and logging into it. We can probably scratch that. If you have a gaming computer it might have a Killer network port (killer is the brand name). Their software has some type of traffic shaping if it's running. It would be a running process probably at the bottom right corner. Probably don't have anything like that though.. so we can ignore that.
The DMZ is pretty easy to do. Once logged into your router it should have a tab or link that points you to a page for DMZ. The ones I've seen have been pretty out in the open and easy to use. Just typing the current IP address of the computer usually without even needing to set a manual static IP.
uPnP is a setting on your router that will automatically forward ports. If most games work then it's probably already turned on. Sometimes it can cause problems in some situations but probably not for this.
Setting your DNS can be done on the router but it can also be done from your computer's Network Adapter Settings under IPv4.
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
VPN would also be done on your computer. Something like WTfast or VyperVPN have free trials. I would assume no CC is needed, if they want one then don't do it. The only purpose of this would be to see if it's something fishy with your ISP. Probably not it either.

The simpliest thing you could try is to unplug your Router and Modem. Leave them unplugged for a good 30 seconds up to 5 minutes. I should have meantioned this earlier.
It smells network related to me. Unlikely on EA's end since it doesn't sound widespread, so either your ISP or the equipment in your house.
To log into routers you type it's IP address into a web browser. It's the "Gateway" under your connection properties. Usually it's something like 192.168.1.1 but not always. You probably don't know the User/Pass so by googling your model # + "default password" it should show. Usually they are easy like Admin/1234 or Administrator/administrator or Admin/Admin or admin/*blank*. If your router is rented from your ISP you might not even have access to log into it.
Sorry I can't be of more help.. I'm really just completely guessing at things to try to narrow it down.
It varies by router brand and model. Here is an examle though:
Somewhere in your router setup pages is a page called DMZ most likely (possibly it's thrown in with something else). Put the IP address of your computer (example: 192.168.1.5) and save it. If that solves it then we know it's a port forwarding or uPnP problem. If it does nothing then atleast we know it isn't that I guess.
If DMZ didn't do it uPnP won't affect anything either.
Maybe try contacting EA support, I've said about every thing that comes to my mind.
