It's just bad luck my friend, this game is based completely on odds. How likely or unlikely is for you to find a match is based on how many players are online at that moment, but from the opposite side.
Let me give you some examples.
Let's suppose that there are only 10 people in total playing this game. 3 are playing as Plants (you included) and 7 are playing as Zombies.
That's why you can easily find a match. There are more Zombie players waiting for a match than Plant players.
The Zombie players, tired that they cannot get a match, try switching sides.
There are now 7 Plant players (still you included) and now only 3 Zombie players. Now you are going to have some trouble looking for a match.
The fact that a Hero makes any difference on the waiting times is just a coincidence. It's not like the devs are intentionally making you wait on THAT particular champion.
The other factor (drawing or not a particular card/answer) is also a matter of luck. Think about it this way.
If you created a deck with 36 Environments and just 4 minions, you still have a chance of drawing only minions on your opening hand.
You can improve your odds by reducing the amount of cards in your deck. (Like, only have 4 environments instead of 8).
You still have a chance to draw those cards consecutively, but the chance is pretty low.
I find the issue of crazy draws more in Random than ranked. I do chalk up many of the ranked matches as just bad luck. I do think there are bots in Ranked to keep match making faster but I have no proof.
