Flashing black screen on startup

Question

We downloaded the Trial version of PvZ GW2 and it played just fine. Then we decided to get the Deluxe Festive Version. After purchasing it, Origin screen said Play. Click on that and the screen flashes black, no sound, no mouse pointer. Crtl-Alt-Del and select Task Manager and the splash screen starts playing just fine with audio. Click on that window and back to flashing screen. Uninstalled the previous version and downloaded the one we bought. Same issues. Doesn't matter if we click on the desktop icon or open from Origin, same flashing screen. Strange how it displays just fine after Ctrl-Alt-Del --> Task Manager. Also tried rebooting the computer. PvZ GW still works fine as does a couple of other games from Origin.

Apparently, if you choose a larger resolution in the game's settings than those of the computer's, you'll get the flashing screen. Changed the game's settings to Borderless and problem went away.&nbsp; Now the game lags like nobody's business.&nbsp; Very disappointing.
