Gameplay discussion: remaining chomper and cactus variants

Hot rod

Almanac:

The Hot Rod Chomper is the fastest Chomper in Suburbia. Equipped with a heavy duty blower, port-and-polished heads, and a lightweight frame, he can race in on the unsuspecting Zombies.

125 health.

Uses Hot Rod Chomp. It deals 25 damage. Once a zombie has been eaten, he will gain a speed boost for five seconds.

He is designed to look like a well hot rod style vehicle with painted flames and has motor oil drool. He produces motor noises when biting and moving. He produces a visual effect and has a unique animation for his speed boost.

His boost makes him as fast as hyper.

Unicorn chomper

Almanac: With his mystic horn and toothy grin, the Unicorn Chomper isn't just the rarest of the rare, he's the coolest of the cool. Impress and dazzle friends and enemies alike.

175 health.

Uses the Unicorn Chomp. It deals 25 damage.

Unlocked by reaching rank 313 in gw1 before February wheb gw2 launched.

Holder of the unicorn warp. Makes horse noises.

Twilight chomper

Almanac: "From parts unknown, Twilight Chomper darts in and out of the shadows, waiting for his moment to strike. Some say he has an eternal hunger for Zombies, other say he's just shy."

150 health.

Uses twilight chomp that deals 35 damage at a slower rof.

Uses the twilight warp. Makes horse noises as well.

Unlocked by owning unicorn, earning 500 vanquishes in 2019 February challenge, or just buying him.

Chester chomper

Almanac:

Crazy Dave accidentally planted a chunk of cheese in his Zen garden. Next thing he knew, this dangerously cheesy Chomper had sprouted. He’s not sure where the sunglasses and goatee came from, though.

125 health (150 upgraded)

Uses cheesy chomp which deals 25 damage, same as stock but he swallows a bit faster.

Free variant in game that's automatically unlocked.

Zen cactus

Almanac:

Most people don't know this, but all five of Zen Cactus' mystic orbs are named after types of tacos. Which ones, you ask? Well that's a closely guarded secret..

125 health.

Uses the Mystic Orbs. It has a slower rate of fire, slower projectile speed, and slower reload speed. It deals 20 damage with direct hits for the first shot. Every orb fired increases the damage dealt by 10 points until it caps at 60 points of damage for the fifth and final orb. They also increase in size and splash damage.

The orbs float around her body visually indicate when they get stronger.

Bfn upgrades: Hotrod 3: Move faster for a short time by earning a vanquish with Burrow.

I know why people dislike hot rod but like chompula he uses the chomp most effectively and has a fair downside.

Both unicorn and twilight are very unique and the warps give them different perspective on the field as you have to time them appropriately.

Chester is used for his abilities more than anything although he has a slightly faster movement speed.

Zen cactus can be very deadly with good aim but you can atleast see it coming with her though i don't see her that often.

The hot rod upgrade just has the same problems as many other bfn upgrades: no visual indicator that it is equipped, no massive downside for the power, and no real visual/audio cues for when it's in effect.

  • Hot Rod Chomper is my favorite Chomper (cue the boos, I know), and he looks a bit different from GW to GW2, although both times he looks great, like a shiny motorcycle or something, love it! His ability to gain a speed boost after swallowing a zombie more than makes up for his lower health, as speed is so crucial for a melee focused character.

Unicorn Chomper and Twilight Chomper both change up normal chomper game play to a strong degree if you retain their unique warps (which I do). I pushed the last couple levels I needed out in GW when GW2 launched to get the unicorn in time as I wasn't quite there yet (I was like 303 or something and you need 313 in GW). Interesting to play variants and their warps are similar but still different to each other.

Chester Chomper is fine although I prefer Dr. Chester for these cheesy variants. Extra speed on a chomper is always good when you're playing them and bad when you're a zombie.

Zen Cactus is my favorite GW2 cactus (Jade was my favorite in GW), and even after she got nerfed pretty early on, she's a great character, although you have to avoid the instinct to reload too often as you want to fire that last shot off for the high damage!

I really don't mind the idea of BfN's upgrade system as you can mix and match those upgrades which has massive potential but is lacking due to how it lacks enough good options and instead has too many that aren't that good or considered essential and not many in between. In fact, the idea of massive potential that wasn't fully reached describes BfN in general. If upgrades like this had visual and audio components to make them stand out more, be more obvious to the other team what you're using, and also add to the feel of these upgrades, it would have been much better.

@Iron_Guard8 People can hate hot rod all they want but he truly is the best chomper to utilize the swallows.

The upgrade system is really busted. The upgrades range from pathetic to stupidly oppresive and unfun to fight. A point limit so people can't equip the best ones is a good idea but really feels underutilized. The lack of information for what you're using or fighting also makes it a pain.
  • Time to go over Chomper and Cactus now!

    Chompers and Cactuses

Hot Rod Chomper: The Hot Rod Chomper deals 25 damage per Chomp, which is exactly the same damage as the regular Chomper. You bite at a faster rate, which could allow you to deal more damage per second. The Hot Rod Chomper has an increased movement speed and, when you digest an enemy, you will gain a significant movement speed increase for about 5 seconds. However, he only has 125 health (instead of 175 by default), so you need to be careful as you can be vanquished more easily while vulnerable. You might find the Speed or Digestion upgrade to be useful for Hot Rod Chomper!

Unicorn Chomper: The Unicorn Chomper has exactly the same stats as the regular Chomper, except with a unique ability called Rainbow Warp. You can only use this Chomper in some Town Hall game modes now. Rainbow Warp teleports you in the direction that you are facing at the time, allowing you to close the gap between you and enemies, or to escape. You have 2 stacks of the Rainbow Warp ability. However, you have the option to use the regular Burrow ability if you would prefer. You might find the Speed or Digestion upgrade to be useful for Unicorn Chomper!

Twilight Chomper: The Twilight Chomper deals 35 damage per Chomp to enemies, although attacks at a slower rate. It has a unique ability called Twilight Warp, which gives you double distance compared to the Rainbow Warp, except it only stacks up once. It teleports you really far, so you can easily close the gap between enemies or escape. This Chomper must be purchased or you will get it for free if you own Unicorn Chomper. You have the option to use the regular Burrow ability if you would prefer to. You might find the Speed or Digestion upgrade to be useful for Twilight Chomper!

Zen Cactus: The damage of Zen Cactus varies depending on the maximum ammo that you have left, and the damage you deal is unaffected by distance. You have 5 maximum ammo (instead of 10 by default). Your shots will deal 20 damage when you have maximum ammo, and for each ammo you used, you will deal 10 more damage. You will deal 60 damage to enemies when you only have a single ammo left, which you can manipulate by unloading your clip until there is only a single ammo left while no enemies are around. Your shots can deal splash damage, however your fire rate is reduced and it takes longer for you to reload. You might find the Damage or Ammo upgrade to be useful for Zen Cactus!

Chester Chomper sounds useful when digesting your enemies!

I bumped this post up as the forums had shuffled around before I got to respond. Perhaps the Community Managers are merging topics or something?
