Garden Ops Challenges - Plants Town Center!

Hey everyone,

In this guide, I will cover how to complete the Garden Ops quests successfully in Plants Town Center more easily. The Ops is located in Pressure Pier, inside the lighthouse. This will include the characters you need to play as to complete the quests, general tips for surviving and winning Ops, which characters you need to use and how you should use each character to your advantage. Rewards for completing these quests include Coins and Tacos. There are 3 characters that you will be asked to do Ops as, the characters are Nightcap, Acorn and Oak and Snapdragon, not necessarily respectively. When you have completed Ops as those 3 characters, then talk to Mark, who is at the Ops base, and he will give you your Coins and Tacos. Make sure to talk to him first before doing one of these quests, so you know which character you need to play as first.

Completing the Ops

You will need to complete 3 games of Ops as different characters in order to claim your rewards. Nightcap, Snapdragon and Acorn/Oak, not necassarily respectively, are the characters you need to complete Ops as for the quests. If you successfully win a game of Ops as that character for each, then you can claim your rewards. There is a medal available in Plants Town Center that asks you to complete and win a full game of Ops without being vanquished, so if you are able to do this while working on your quests, you can earn a cool medal in the process. Remember, the Ops is located at Pressure Pier in the lighthouse. You can complete Ops at any time and with any character, but if you do, you will not receive any bonus rewards from Mark for doing so.

General Ops Tips

Make sure to use Pots to your advantage. Consider which ones you place and where you place them. For instance the Heal Pot would probably be best at the back of the lighthouse as it is less likely to be attacked and destroyed there, and you can retreat to it if you need healing. You do not want to put it far away from the Garden where the Zombies tend to spawn a lot and where it will be vanquished easily, for instance. You may want to place a Lightning Reed, a Goop-Shroom and some melee pots near the Garden. Definetly put into consideration which Pots you place and where.

It is probably best to stay near the garden, unless you want to start a wave by clearing out some early clusters of enemies first while your Pots do some work, and then head back and defend the garden before enemies get to swarm it, as this will clear out enemy numbers. Make sure to use your character attacks and abilities to your advantage and try not to get vanquished during the round of Garden Ops, as this will give enemies lots of time to attack your garden. Make sure to only play as the character that Mark asks you to be, if you are trying to finish the quests and claim your rewards, do check which character he would like you to play as if you are unsure.

Trying Not to Get Vanquished During Ops for the Medal

If you complete a full round of Ops without being vanquished, you get the Op Till You Don't Drop! medal. You are able to do this with any character, but working on collecting this medal during a game of Ops as one of the quest characters will allow you to earn it faster. Here are some tips to make earning this medal easier:

  • Use your Heal pot to your advantage so you can heal on demand. Location is important, perhaps place it at the back of the lighthouse.
  • Retreat if your health gets low and carefully monitor your health to avoid getting vanquished.-
  • If you find yourself being attacked by lots of enemies at once, try to take some weaker ones out quickly or seek cover.
  • Use and place Pots frequently, they will help defend the garden even while you are off healing or seeking cover.
  • Consider your character upgrades that enhance your survivability.

Completing it as Nightcap!

  • Use your primary attack to clear out enemies in a line, or grouped enemies. Your Spore Strikes have natural piercing without the need of upgrades.
  • Use Casting Shadows to throw over the garden if enemies start attacking, so you can disorient them, or as a way to become invisible to enemies while still being able to damage them. You can use this to more easily damage your enemies.
  • Use Fung Fu if enemies pile at the garden or if enemies are surrounding you. Be careful though as the enemies are still probably able to hit you.
  • Use Shadow Sneak as a way to retreat when your health gets low, or to move to a different location without being attacked.

Completing it as Snapdragon!

  • Use your primary attack if enemies are close enough to you or you are close enough to an enemy.
  • Use your secondary attack if no enemies are close enough to you to reach them, or if you are trying to heal.
  • Use Swoop Slam to vanquish or damage enemies, retreat, or deal damage to enemies around your garden.
  • Use Blue Blazes on enemies with high health or as a way to deal additional damage to enemies, or while you wait to cooldown your primary weapons.
  • Use Blazing Trail against clustered enemies and enemies close together, or around your garden if lots of enemies are clustered there.

Completing it as Acorn and Oak!

  • Use Acorn if you prefer more rapid-fire attacking and more mobility.
  • Use Oak if you prefer being tanky and you need explosive area-of-effect attacks, which is good for dealing lots of damage to multiple enemies at your garden.
  • Use your Sap Traps and its variants on grouped enemies, especially if clustered at your garden.
  • Use Acorn Dash as Acorn to retreat if needed or to get closer to enemies.
  • Use Roll for Damage as Oak against clustered enemies.

CONCLUSION

In order to make completing these quests and collecting your medal, make sure you consider you Pot placement and which Pots you place and when you make use of your character attacks and abilities. Remember that you always have the option to make a retreat if you find your health getting low, as being vanquished can give enemies lots of time to damage your garden and you will have to get back to it to defend it, in addition to losing an opportunity for earning the medal. This will make it much more simple to achieve these quests! Make sure to talk to Mark to clarify which character you need to be for the next Ops round, along with after completing Ops as all the quest characters to claim your rewards! Have fun earning!

Hopefully this guide helped you to complete your Ops challenges in Plants Town Center!

@Sadlyshesaid I wish there was, but in both the free-roam regions and in the Terminal from Giddy Park, you actually cannot play with other Al (excluding the Pots and Bots if you want to think of it that way). You can play Ops in split-screen on the same Console, I used to do that quite a lot with my brother, quite fun actually, and you can do this in both the free-roam areas and from Giddy Park.

@Sadlyshesaid Fair enough, I have made plenty of other guides like this one, so if you are trying to complete everything within the game, you can check them out if you need assistance. This is one of my all time favourite games as well, it is not getting updates anymore which is a shame, but I am still playing the game regularly.
