Garden Warfare 2: In Solo Ops, how do I spawn up to 3 AI companions?

It says I should be able to do this at the Launch screen, but I can not figure out how to actually do it.  I choose one character, hit A button, and the game launches without my 3 AI companions.  How do I spawn 3 AI companions?

    When you get into the game there will be either 3 plant pots or tombstones right in front of you. You can spawn your AI companions from them once you're in game.

    Also remember with each additional AI companion Solo Ops difficulty increases.

    i have the pc version and i cant key bind the contol for switching AI, ITS SET To the up button, and thats my walk forward button, so it keeps switching Ai and you cant change that button, bug that needs fixing for pc players..
