Your piggy back comment to this thread had no useful diagnostic data, and you never corrected that omission.
Thought I would post this in case it helps someone else on this matter. I had this exact problem with an MSI All in One gaming PC AG220 (i5-4210HQ,8GB,128GB SSD+1TB HDD, GTX860M/2G) which on the surface I felt should be able to run this game. The All in One is a bit like a laptop and has an Intel GPU and an NVIDIA GPU, however what seemed to happen is that the NVIDIA GPU would never be used as the preferred GPU for PVZ no matter what I did - it would always seem to select the Intel GPU and throw the "update drivers error" mentioned in this post which was pretty insane. I tried the preferred GPU option using the NVIDIA control panel, updated drivers etc but non of those options worked for me.No matter what i did it would the game would always try and use the Intel GPU rather than the NVIDIA GPU.
THe problem for me seemed to be that when I upgraded to Windows 10, the intelligent switching (deciding which GPU to use for PvZ) no longer worked. The only thing that resolved this was to reset the machine back to factory settings (eg Windows 8.1), and for some reason the machine was able to switch correctly again, and now I can play the game with no issues whatsoever. I guess this might be a MSI / win 10 problem. Or it could be a Frostbite / Win 10 / MSI problem not sure (other games switched OK). But I guess I will be hanging out on Win 8 for a while until this gets resolved!
