Getting MASSIVE stutter since patch

Hello,

before the last patch, I used to be able to play the game just fine.

Now, no matter which mode I play (yes, even when I'm hosting Garden Ops, although it's not as noticeable at first) I get massive stuttering.

It is so bad that it feels like the entire game is in slow motion (like someone was madly pressing an invisible pause button several times per second).

I tried lowering my graphic settings (even though the game used to run fine with everything on high) but it changed nothing.

I checked the in-game FPS counter, and it actually stays above 110 at all times.

I did notice that the game seemed to cap my CPU usage, for some reason, though. All my cores are unparked and are being used, so this shouldn't be the issue either.

It's not my internet connection either, since I just tested and both the ping and speed are fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this essentially makes the game unplayable.

Here are some brief specs:

CPU: 3570K @ 3.4GHz

Mobo: P8Z77-V LX

GPU: Asus Radeon HD 7870

PSU: Cooler Master GX 650W Bronze

8 Gigs RAM DDR3

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits

ATI Drivers: Catalyst 14.7

Note that a couple weeks ago, I started getting grey screens of death and then black screens in some games (even not-GPU intensive ones) and momentarily fixed it by downclocking my GPU, but even returning my GPU to default didn't solve the issue for GW.

Another quick note: my subject reads "since patch", but I actually only started playing again today on my home computer, so it's possible that the problem is not linked to the patch itself, but to something even more recent (although that seems doubtful, unless everyone has been getting weird issues today only).

You might try resetting 3D Preferences in Catalyst.

    Sounds a lot this maybe?

His FPS is solid like yours but still reports this stuttering.

His last post he thought it might be with his mouse?

I have witnessesness something similiar in two different situations and that was with Borderless and when SLI was forced on.

Not always do I notice it with SLI forced on.

Borderless I've only noticed on my nVIdia system, our AMD doesn't seem do the same thing.

I almost cannot explain how the "lag" or "stutter" feels in Borderless on the nVidia system.

Perhaps try messing with Borderless/Fullscreen; change to the opposite your currently trying.

  • Hi, thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately, we are either suffering from different issues, or he described his poorly.

I am positive it has nothing to do with my mouse (I have seen/suffered from input lag before and I can tell it's not that).

Like I said, it feels like everything is going in slow motion, like a pause button was pressed and resumed from very rapidly (like 10 times per second). It basically makes the game about twice as slow as it should be (an easy way for me to tell is by jumping, it looks like my character is floating). I can also tell that some frames are being skipped, either through players warping around a bit, or bullets not hitting when they should (or completely disappearing).

In multiplayer, I will see people warping around a bit, because they obviously move faster than what the game is showing me.

If I can find an easy to cap video of it, I'll post a link.

I don't use SLI as I only have one GPU.

I used to play in fullscreen all the time and was not getting any issues. I'll still try to switch to borderless and see if anything appears different.
