Guide to Pots!

Hey everyone,

This guide covers the Pots available in the game and their uses, such as which ones are available for use and in which modes you are able to use them. I will also provide additional information. There are 3 kinds of Pots: Range, Support and Melee. Ranged pots can attack from a decent distance, with varying amounts of distances depending on the one/s you place. Support pots provide enemy distractions or can heal you and your team. Melee pots can deal decent damage, but are restricted to short range combat.

THE POTS

There are a total of 9 Pots available for placement, they do not cost anything to place, but all of them (except for Pea Cannon) require a cooldown before they can be placed again. Pots are available in Garden Ops, Gnome Bomb and Turf Takeover (for the Plants, and only if they are defending).

RANGED

Pea Cannon

The Pea Cannon is a Pot that can be placed as often as desired, without limitations or cooldowns, and shoots Peas at Zombies.

"Shoots explosive peas with splash damage."

Good Situations to Use This In: Multiple clustered enemies nearby.

Good Places to Plant It: Front lines.

Pea Gatling

The Pea Gatling is a variant of the Pea Cannon that shoots at a faster rate.

"Shoots rapid-fire bursts and has good range."

Good Situations To Use This In: Against enemies at longer ranges.

Good Places To Plant It: Near or at the front lines.

Scaredy-Shroom

The Scaredy-Shroom is a sniper Pot that can accurately hit Zombies at further distances, but it shoots slowly and hides when a Zombie gets close.

"Takes zombies out with superior range, but hides when they get close."

Good Situations To Use This In: Against single enemies.

Good Places To Plant It: At the back lines, hidden but can still hit enemies.

Lightning Reed

The Lightning Reed is a Pot that can deal arcing electricity to nearby Zombies, when a Zombie is hit by this, meaning it is useful in groups.

"Shoots high voltage plant-based lightning that arcs to nearby zombies."

Good Situations To Use This In: Against multiple enemies, especially if they are nearby.

Good Places To Plant It: Near the back lines.

SUPPORT

Goop-Shroom

The Goop-Shroom is a Pot that fires Goop, similar to the Chomper's Grody Goop, that can spread and toxify many Zombies at once. It also slows down Zombies caught in it.

"Fires goop at nearby zombies, slowing them down."

Good Situations To Use This In: With multiple enemies nearby.

Good Places To Plant It: Very close to objectives.

Heal Flower

The Heal Flower is a Pot that can heals all Plants, by producing healing sun drops. However, it cannot do damage to Zombies.

"Generates sundrops that heal nearby plants."

Good Situations To Use This In: When under heavy fire or after a fight.

Good Places To Plant It: At the back and hidden, protected from enemy fire.

MELEE

Bonk Choy

The Bonk Choy is a Pot that punches Zombies that get close to it in fairly rapid succession.

"Combo punches zombies in close proximity."

Good Situations To Use This In: Enemies that are approaching the objective.

Good Places To Plant It: In the front lines.

Doom-Shroom

The Doom-Shroom is a Pot that releases a massive, shockwave based explosion whenever a Zombie get close to it. It is a melee attack, so it cannot deal damage at long range.

"Explodes damaging zombies in proximity, but defenseless when regenerating."

Good Situations To Use This In: Against grouped and/or unaware enemies.

Good Places To Plant It: Behind corners, where enemies are unaware, close to objectives.

Fume-Shroom

The Fume-Shroom is a Pot that has a short range, but it can penetrate zombie defenses quite well, good if there are a lot of armored Zombies around.

"Shoots bubbles that damage zombie shields and armor."

Good Situations To Use This In: Against heavily guarded or armored enemies.

Good Places To Plant It: Near or at the front lines.

CONCLUSION AND AN OVERVIEW

So, Pots can be very useful. While they generally do not tend to make major differences during gameplay, you actually get a reward for placing and using Pots, they are:

  • 10XP for each Pot you place.
  • 5XP every time your Pot gets a vanquish.
  • More XP if your Pot performs specific actions, such as healing allies.

They are also very useful in combat scenarios as they are able to make a difference. However, they require a cooldown before other Pots can be placed, and placement is somewhat important, so considering your placement and when you use them are really useful. You do not need to buy Pots in this game, so no money is used. Placing and using Pots is a good way to level up characters and give them some XP - including characters you do not like as much.

In a game mode, knowing where you can place Pots is really handy. It means that you know where you can head to start placing Pots, without needing to look around the place. The Pot locations where you can plant Pots are always in the same location on the map.

Lastly, try to place Pots early on, because they can cooldown faster. Again, knowing where the Pot locations are, is really helpful.

Well, that is it now!

  • @TheSprinter85 Awesome guide! For the first few months of BfN I never bothered reading the descriptions ans stats of the pots and planted everything everywhere. I quickly learned which pot is good for which location, as the plant designs are very memorable (especially if you play PvZ1 and 2). The bots, however, are more difficult to remember. In my opinion, they look very similar, making it harder to learn where to use them.

My setup for the map shown in the first screenshots (don't know the English name atm): Gatling Pea in the front where most zombies walk in, Scardey shroom in the covered area next to it, Sunflower or Doom-Shroom on the inside (depends on your team) and Lightning Reed to the right.

  • A really well written guide. I rarely use pots but I probably will start using them now.

It seems that many players are interested in this guide series, so I will continue making them.

@ShadowPea127 I really appreciate your feedback also. These guides do not make themselves. I have to put lots of work into them. That said, I enjoy making them. No issue at all. 🙂

@benn1nat0r The map I took all the screenshots is Peachy District. As I never placed any Pots (apart from a Doom-Shroom), I did not take all the captures at once to prevent "disrupting gameplay", by "being AFK", not placing pots to help, etc. I did it throughout the game. The where I think they should be placed and when you should use them is my opinion only - good if you want to use Pots to the fullest advantage possible. 🙂

  • I hope that Scaredy-Shroom would have infinite range.

In Loggy Acre's last point, the pot in the left (view from zombies) is almost always only to be destroyed by Deadbeard on far hill.

    I want Scaredy-Shroom can counter-snipe to him.

@CharlesHlcBendel Yes, you mean those Deadbeards on the hill that do lots of sniping? My guess is that Scaredy-Shrooms do have infinite range, but cannot “see” that far!

Yes, they always snipe plants over the canyon.

At least for me, the most vanquishing pot in PvP is Doom-Shroom.
The damages of shooting pots are so low, but Doom-Shroom can vanquish instantly.
So I prefer planting Doom-Shroom in a pot on obscure place.

@CharlesHlcBendel Yes, I do agree. I like to hide Doom-Shrooms around corners as I have even got double and triple vanquishes with it. Same with Explody Bot.
