Helping fix this Mediocre video game

Here’s what I have to say about this game and I can describe me in one word. Mediocre. If you compare this game to garden warfare two you can see how much they’ve taken away and innovated for no reason. They’ve taken away character variations which gave the game so much more replayability. They made ups way too easy and made it where you cannot use the map, what side you want to be on, I am at the difficulty is. Another thing about taking away character variations what is that a lot of people had favorite character variations there now taken away for no apparent reason. No one had any problems with them and one was complaining at all but pop An EA chose to take them away. They should have put them in in a way for upgrading like elemental abilities or something a roll along the ways like that. By the way, upgrades are mediocre as well. The thing is we already had upgrades in the last game which made this just a downgrade by taking it away then adding more upgrades that did absolutely nothing but make them a little bit different or change how they do some thing. They should’ve done with garden warfare did in the first place and take what they had and work on it and make it better. But no, they had to change the art style, have some of the most boring naps ever (the mini games are fine), Prize maps or just battle passes for plants versus zombies,And made the new characters so OP. One thing about the new characters is that they are not balanced even when there are patches it does absolutely nothing to fix them. Nightcap has low health but she can deal a lot of damageAnd do fun through which can do massive damage to vanquish even a super brains in seconds. It’s the same with snapdragon, acorn, 80s action hero, space cadet, and the disco woman (Forgot her name). One last thing is he didn’t even have any DLC ‘s, yes they had seasonal events but they did absolutely nothing like the DLC for the gnomes. One thing I can’t give a credit for is the outfits. Some of them look amazing but again it’s EA, they only put so much time to some things so you can waste your money on stupid transactions that leave your wallet empty and there’s filled to the brim. Even when they noticed that people one character variance back and added legendary upgrades, that’s still didn’t add up with all the other ones that they left behind.Another thing is the art style. For both of the garden warfare games they had a certain art style That made them unique to other games. This one has a more cartoony aesthetic which is nice, but I would have rather had the old Astec than the new one. One last thing is that when they had their final update, people checked through the lead files and found so many Close to finished characters that would’ve brought the game so much more fun, but sadly EA has to ruin another gaming industry with micro transactions, not giving a crap, and doing it all for the money and leaving another company in the dust. Overall I think Pop Did a great job trying to make this game as good as possible, but EA had to find a way to make it horrible and make plenty of hope for fans feel sadness and despair. That’s all I have to say on this topic, but again if pop Does find away to turn this around with a surprise update in someway or another(most definitely not) and try to redeem themselves, then I would be all for that.Hopefully I changed a lot of peoples minds and hopefully you can help me fight against EA in their corrupted minds.

    @shurikeninjaIts not just you.

The lighting is definetly inferior in bfn.

Trailer vs game graphics downgrades have been a huge meme for a while so this isnt really anything new but popcap always seems to make their later trailers with gameplay instead, correct if I'm wrong but I don't think bfn did any none full none gameplay trailers after founders unlike gw1 and 2 like the pc release trailer for gw1 or zombopolis. (Doesnt help that the game has little marketing compared to the others).

Go look at gw1 and two, the ability coloring and bullet effects look so much better and more detailed than bfn such as soldier's paintballs which leave splat marks behind in gw but only bullet holes in bfn (different color and sizes for his variants paintballs too even close one like camo ranger and commando had different shading and textures despite both being green) or imps blasters. The effects for gw were bright, colorful, and still easily distinguishable from each other and I never had a problem knowing what character was shooting at me from the look of projectiles.

The overall environment art is fine tbh but some textures to improve the looks have definitely had to load first in bfn.

The weeds look bad in the lighting and the zombies almost seem like they have a blue filter over their heads.

Some of the newer designs are fine though I'm not the biggest fan the new plushied and less detailed style such as deadbeard and sunflower.

Imp, zmech, and rose look horrible and no amount of playing bfn will change my opinion on that.

I prefer chomper, all star, and cactus' old designs tbh and cactus definetly had better pigmentation lightning in garden warfare along side all stars clothes which were changed for his taller design.

Citron is fine I just wish his body was connected and he still had cool guy shades.

Corn is ok just less detailed than garden warfare.

Soldier and superbrainz got the best new zombies designs but their faces seem uncanny.

Why do all the zombies have green eyes, just why? In every game they are portrayed with dead black pupils why suddenly add green around them?

Idk how to feel about peashooter but his walk and eyebrows are kinda uncanny.

    They removed engineers crack 0/10.

I don't like scientists new design he looks like that kid that picked on in middle school.

The new characters fit the new art style the best.

My firm opinion of bfn's artstlye has to be the argument alongside pvz 3 and the logo changes in the regards of the old one is iconic and works well so why really try to change what works for the series so drastically and suddenly.

  • @CraZjaM I don't hate the newer art style but I'm defnitely not a fan ot the new character designs (new rose, zmech and imp look awful) and the aesthetic changes are awful tbh you would never know this is pvz by looking at half the maps and the tone changes from gw kinda lost the apocalyptic war vibe where the world is deserted and the two sides in their respective games are trying to wipe each other out and win.

I pointed out in another how the removal of variants and spawnables killed ops and even made it somehow more worse than even gw1 in terms of variety.

If they were truly able to keep updates flowing maybe they could've turned the game around but sadly we instead are stuck with this mediocre overwatch clone.

Wizard is broken and wildflower and tv head somehow have a melee attack as strong as chomper to try and make them more interesting.

The finales are fine but some of them try to hard to make you remeber gw1, looking at you peachy district and preserve pastures is just smaller cactus canyon with gargs. Unless you gonna bother bringing back gw1 in maps full dont try gw1 maps.

The payload finales are hard for attackers in that defenders just have to say in the room and shoot out.

Goop y gully goes downhill wheb the drill turns and tourist trap island is just kinda underwhelming, also cannons>jumpads to reach islands.

It was obvious through information on this sub that they apparently planned a third shooter since 2016 and an action adventure game that was cancelled yet bfn feels cobbled together in under ayear abd unlike gw1 and 2 where they revealed information and allowed playing by a public beta, bfn was kept as quiet as possible until it just appeared out of nowhere with no chance for hype or to let the changes to gameplay sink in, and it elwas clear from founders that nobody had playtested due to one punch brainz and rhe braindead fung fu and Oak spam.

The question is why was this game so awkward and rushed, did they change gw3 rapidly into bfn, did they change the core gameplay due to the success of overwatch?

Animations and bullet effects are somehow worse than bfn just look at the reloads and weapons where before all stars rotors spinned while firing, no they do not, imps lasers look worse and his lights dont work.

The lightning is also worse than gw2.

Cosmetics look nice but thats about it they offer no substance to keep playing over and over for.

Rainbow stars were also poorly handled as rather than just play weekly evebts you now had to complete certain challenges in these modes to earn a pathetic amount in a game where most prizes are a thousand stars.
Ranked Also required 75 wins so hope you never suffer lag, afks, and disconnects.

Even with a lack of content gw2 went strong between the gap from frontline flats to capture the taco and the new updates were very popular and even after walnut hills the game is still strong compared to the drop off bfn suffered in content droughts.

Legendary upgrades were a contradiction and its clear nobody tested them beforehand.

The maps just feel worse overall, remember the vertical freedom we had in bfn well thats gone now, thanks invisble barries blocking my freedom. Gw2 also had so much detail put into every map with great easter eggs, like the moon worm or shark photo. They also have no weather effects in bfn like gw2 does.

We Also lost so many youtubers and interest from the public with the lack of advertising and replay ability, I mean most people joined for garden warfare and changing a format after 2 successful runs just turns a lot of people off.

I would argue bfn started out as a disaster that even to the end of its life only reached mediocrity just like you.
  • @CraZjaM Just going to comment on art style, not bothered to talk about the rest sorry. I think I would prefer and think the BFN art style looked better if I played on PC on max settings lol. On base consoles it doesn't look like the reveal video they released to promote the Founders Edition, same goes for the environment. Game looks oddly pixelated in some parts, lighting and colouring also looks off and too warm for me/ HDR looks off (although this could also be due to my TV not having great HDR). Most character designs grew on me, while others such as Peashooter have always looked superior to me.

@stukapooka I’m not saying I Don’t like the art style, it’s just that garden warfare had its own style and it was taken away when BFN changed for “innovation”.

@CraZjaM Oh yeah I dont hate it either, I just think it would have been better as its own thing (originally a pve adventure game was proposed before being canned) and not for the third shooter and I definetly prefer garden warfare overall style.

A shame the game was left like this and the leaked content was never released (e.g. Ice Lettuce), but I’ll probably continue until I have maxed all characters, then (almost) stop playing BFN entirely and play more GW2.
