@cool_split2Try this. Go to the menu and head to the Friends tab. Then pick the friend you want to play and invite them to the group. They should get a request from you, and if they accept, they will automatically join you.

I am not as familar with Switch and I only recently bought one, so apologies if this does not work.Thanks but it’s getting the friend on the list in the 1st place that’s the issue. They’re a Switch friend but not a PVZ friend.
