I like all 3 PvZ shooters and I feel BfN could be better than GW2 but it has too many core issues. Just the fact that the hit registration has so many problems; see @GutmanSca 's thread here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/The-True-Reason-why-Hit-Detection-is-bad-in-PvZ-BfN/m-p/9382749#M24839 brings BfN down several notches, when you combine that with the game's economy issues (coins, rainbow stars, and regional currencies), the lack of excitement in Ops, and some other problems (balance-although GW1 and 2 also have balance issues, Giddy Park exploits, and so on) all bring the game down below where it could be.
BfN does have a few improvements, the fact that we can save builds/costume slots is a great change and something I asked for in GW2 for a long time. I also love the UI for customizing our characters in BfN over either GW1's or GW2's. In GW2, it was a pain to find the one thing you wanted in a single ribbon of options that you had to scroll through.
To be fair, GW2 did have a lot of issues at launch; the Rose plague, the connection problems that would interfere with capping a point, the account reset issues, and so on. And it still suffers from some balancing problems, but most of this was fixed and usually fairly quickly. To this day some variants are still UP or OP, and while some people are really upset about the lack of variants, I feel that BfN adding completely new characters could add a lot to the character selection once we have them in our hands.
I have 313 hours in GW1, 2415 in GW2, and 648 in BfN. GW1 was good but the lack of zombie OPs and other PvE options, meant I wasn't going to play it as much, and GW2 released so I moved on to that. GW2 kept me playing and I still login pretty much every day, even if only briefly to check on the quests and get a couple done. BfN has huge potential for me to play it more, but only future improvements can guarantee that. I do still login to GW1 once in awhile as well, as some of those maps have some great memories for me.
BfN is good, I enjoy it, but it feels like that potential we know it has just isn't here yet, and for all its issues GW2 was a great experience that BfN hasn't matched, at least not yet.
