Imp tips

Imp's main purpose is to close ranged combat with a small hitboxes and waiting to bring out his mech to wreck havoc. Here's some tips.

General tips:

  • Move and jump a lot while fighting. Abuse you're small hitbox. But don't jump too much, the best imp player is one who is unpredictable.
  • Avoid long ranged combats at all costs, you specialize in mid to close ranged combats.

Main weapon:

  • A rapid-fire but somewhat inaccurate. It has a fast rate of fire with around 54 ammo.
  • Long ranged combats should be avoided due to the weapon's inaccuracy.

Gravity grenade:

Imp's gravity grenade traps a few nearby enemies in it, making them unable to move around.

  • However, they can still use abilities to get out. These include, but not limited to: swoop slam, Acorn's dash, and citron's dash. Keep in mind that abilities that just increase speed like rose's arcane enigma don't allow her to escape. Keep count of if the enemy used up their mobility ability to know when to use it.
  • Also, the area is not big, so try to directly land the grenade onto the enemy.

Impaka:

Impaka allows imp to shoot all around him. The ability deals more damage to enemies imp is looking at. It also decreases damage taken while using it

  • Imp is very vulnerable while using it, even with the armor given while using it. Abilities such as, but not limited to, chili bran bomb, burrow, and husk hop, can vanquish imp while he's using impaka. Also, cactus can snipe imp while using impaka very easily.
  • Similar to gravity grenade, keep count of if the enemy used up their ability.

Mech:

Mech has somewhat of an opposite playstyle to imp. It has 350 HP with a very big hitbox. It's also better at long ranged combats then imp, but still close ranged mostly.

  • When calling in the mech, go somewhere safe before calling it due to you being very weak while calling.
  • If you're getting chased, go behind a corner and calling in the mech is very good to avoid getting vanquished.
  • The main weapon is powerful and very accurate at mid range, so that's going to be your prefered range.
  • Bionic bash allows the mech to stomp and deal 75 damage. It's hard to use (it's actually underpowered). Use it once you get close.
  • Missile madness allows the mech to shoot a bunch of missiles. It deals a lot of damage at mid to close range, avoid using it at long range did to otherwise bring avoidable. Also keep in mind you can't cancel it, so keep in mind when to use it.
  • The ejection is very powerful. The explosion afterward is very big. It's better to use the ejection then to let the mech be destroyed by the plants since you can escape easily.

Best plants to go against:

  • Nightcap can be easily trapped via gravity grenade and the impaka can easily damage her even when she's invisible. Bionic bash can also OHKO her and missile madness can vanquish her very quickly. However, beware of fung fu due to the large area and imp's low health.
  • Sunflower can't escape fung fu and her less then average health makes her not much of a threat.
  • At mid range, rose can use her homing to vanquish imp, but at close, imp can dominate her. She can't escape gravity grenade too.
  • Wildflower has a bigger hitbox and impaka can easily destroy dandelions. He/She also can't escape the gravity grenade.

Worst plants to go against:

  • Peashooter can easily destroy imp due to his splash damage and chili bean bomb, in addition, to pea hyper can easily avoid imp's shoots. Try to trap peashooter while he's in his pea hyper to waste pea hyper.
  • Chomper can easily bite imp is two shots and grody goop can easily trap imp and deal a lot of damage to him. Spikeweed can also OHKO imp. Try to trap chomper to avoid getting too close to him and burrow can be more easily avoided.
  • Citron has a very accurate weapon close ranged and the dash can OHKO imp as well as allow him to escape gravity grenade.

    Snapdragon is generally very good against Imp, but Imp can constantly move around Snapdragon in a circular pattern around his head to avoid the fire.

    Imp needs to be constantly moving, or characters that are weak against him can easily take him out as their weapons typically have high damage.

    Avoid Citrons as their entire kit destroys yours, even their EMP can reduce your Mech's duration and you are much easier to be directly hit by the EMP, causing Peached Stun builds to be more effective against you.

    Imp has no very easy win matchups as all of his counters have some method to deal with you (Wildflower grenade ability, Rose Thorn Apart, Sunflower with many of her perks, etc), however, he does have some matchups where he can almost feel obsolete with them on the field (Citron, Peashooter, Chomper and Snapdragon sometimes)

    Citron can escape Gravity Grenade and can instavanquish Imp at the same time using Spin Dash, so the Imp needs to be careful if they Gravity Grenade a Citron.

  • @SundropDot Yeah, imp in general is underpowered due to the reasons you said, but he's still a fun character to play as imo.
