Improvements to Infinity Time

I thought that the one thing that GW1 Really needed was a dedicated PvE experience.  And for the most part, Popcap has really come through for GW2.  I believe the Backyard Battleground and Quest system are fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story missions.  However, I am not particularly thrilled with the endgame, Infinity Time.

Now that balancing has been addressed (and will continue), and we have received our first major content patch, I am hoping Popcap can address Infinity Time.  I will list a few suggestions, but I don’t think all of them need to be implemented.  I believe even one or two can make it a more positive experience.

LOWER THE INVESTMENT – It costs five stars just to enter Infinity Time, and it goes up quite a bit if you want to start at a later level.  There is also a large time commitment (approximately 45 minutes to finish wave 25).  Make it a flat rate of five stars to enter, and reduce the amount of time needed to earn an Infinite Infinity chest.  Make is like Backyard Battleground: there are a finite number of rounds, and once completed, there is an endless wave of gnomes/nemeses to defeat.

IMPROVE REWARD CHANCES – Collecting over 25,000 shards and spending 45 minutes only to receive a cosmetic item is frustrating, especially since I haven’t unlocked any party characters yet.  They improved the chances of receiving legendary items with the Trouble in Zombopolis packs (I have all hats and characters now), perhaps they could do the same with Infinity Time.  Even better, allow players to collect shards and spend them on special packs that contain Infinity items.

A NEW GAME MODE – The biggest issue I have with Infinity Time is its departure from the Plants vs. Zombies formula.  While robot dinosaurs are cool, I would rather play as the characters that I have invested in.  Also, I find the levels to be very tedious (the layout, the music, the enemies, etc.).  Add a new game mode where you play as your plants and zombies, and your battle gnomes for collectible shards.

MATCHMAKING – Allow players to join a lobby to play together.  If they keep the endless waves, allow players to jump in and out of sessions.  They can keep their shards when they finish a round (if you haven’t noticed, I think players should be able to keep their shards after a game).  I am hoping that the portal in Town Hall is going to be a new endgame component.  Perhaps this could be another way to earn part characters.

Thank you for reading, and I appreciate your feedback.

My feedback is I agree with everything you said.  however I think the star cost to enter should be removed especially since the rewards are generally not worth the effort.  You may get lucky and pick up a party character but there is no reason to play infinity mode once you unlock all party characters.

  • I completed infinity time grinding 2 months ago. Yes its terrible doing the same thing over and over about 200 times. I found out how the system works. There are 2 tiers of items.

low tier lose on wave 16

high teir lose on wave 26 / get 25k shards

Items have common, rare and super rare don't matter you unlock some super rare items from wave 16 and 26. You don't know if you collected high or low tier items until you done the same wave and losing like 3 times and you keep getting coins. Getting to high waves is useless. After wave 50 it keeps having 2 gnome kings but the only difference is how many singularity come out.

Even a mode similar to infinity mode and garden/grave ops would be more fun because it doesn't repeat too often. Maybe a garden/garave ops endless would be more fun than infinity mode.
