Insta-blocks are back now?

Greetings plant-eaters and lawn-fenders,

just recently I've been observing a thing called insta-blocks. When attacking and filling the block-meter, instead of negating the damage and triggering the hero card upon block, it blocks the damage, says insta-block, and empties the block-meter without revealing a hero card. It's rare but started happening after the latest update.

I googled it and apparently insta-blocks were removed at some point in the past. Now they returned? Bringing more RNG to blocking/defending in general?

I had it happen with Soul Patch quite often. It happened to me once without it, but something like 30% of the blocks from soul patch do it. I think soul patch still takes damage, strangely.
