I have over 50 hours in the game now. I am really enjoying some aspects of the game. The Ops mode is better, the backyard is really fun to explore, and the quests are a lot of fun. The maps are really interesting to look at and to explore, but not as easy to play as the maps in the first game.
What I haven't been enjoying so far is the multiplayer modes. I love Gardens and Graveyards in the first game, but so far in this game I have not enjoyed Turf Takeover (which is a combination of Gardens and Graveyards and Herbal Assault—a new mode where the zombies defend and the plants attack). The game feels a lot more chaotic than the first, I personally find it harder to aim in this game, and I die a lot more often than I did in the first.
I would say the game is worth it for the other content, but the multiplayer in this game feels very different from the first, and not in a good way for me. I am hopeful that it will get better with balance changes, but I fear this may just be a fundamentally different game that may never be quite as fun or as charming for me as the first game. If so, I will enjoy the quests and the Ops mode with friends, but I'll have to go back to the first game for my Gardens and Graveyards and Taco Bandits fix.
