Here’s a somewhat realistic scenario told in the first person perspective.
It was school lunchtime. I was letting my girlfriend play Plants Vs Zombies FREE on my iPhone 13 Pro. She complains that she’s already missing some lawnmowers despite just planting a few Peashooters. I thought nothing of it since I am quite a great player with a knack for intricate knowledge. I said “I think you’re just a bit slow” in a joking manner, thinking a couple of Zombies already got to her mowers. I continued to let her play until lunch was over. A week into this endeavor, I receive a text from her saying she’s breaking up with me because the way I joke is too harsh for her. I was emotionally unstable and went to channel my energy through video games. I played Plants Vs Zombies FREE as the second game of choice. There was something I noticed immediately on Day 4 of my new playthrough: I had been missing a lawnmower on lanes 2 and 3. I was questioning why this happened. I restarted, this time it was lanes 1 and 5. Something wasn’t adding up. So I looked it up on the version history, NO MENTIONS of lawnmower revocation. I searched Safari, no answers. No, just kidding, there were plenty of answers. I saw the first link was a Reddit post complaining about this issue. I then learned that it was an intentional change. I was furious and devastated, but then I realized that my ex wasn’t lying to me. She really was missing lawnmowers, which never happened before until that one time. Now I feel really bad, but at the same time still furious AT EA because they decided to remove a core game mechanic, making only three lawn mowers, pool cleaners, or roof cleaners appear at a time. The rest are pay to win. And that’s why I don’t play Plants Vs Zombies FREE anymore. I may even be derived from the franchise because of this one mistake they made.
Now all of this didn’t happen (I think). I came up with this scenario, but it’s realistic enough to be a reality. Not exactly the whole girlfriend thing, but I wanted to try a new approach at storytelling because I know I won’t get a girlfriend. And I love it that way! But the point of the matter is that EA made a very poor decision on one of the most iconic games, similar to Rovio’s removal of all the Angry Birds knockoffs and even the base game itself!
