We got our son an XBox 360 years ago & one of the first games he wanted was Garden Warfare. He loved it & slowly pushed me into playing, split-screen & then solo to help him with levelling up ("Pleease, Mum! You're good with All-Star!!" etc) 🤣
I fell in love with the game too & when he moved on to other games I carried on. It is fun, not gritty, somehow people of all skill levels can play & enjoy it and because it's played by all sorts of ages the PvZ community feels to me a bit like a family. Admittedly you get the distant cousins or in-laws you're not keen on as well (!) but by & large it's played by a great bunch of people.
I have had thousands of hours of fun in both games & made friends I consider to be real life ones, not just game friends.
I loved the variants giving you choice of play styles, depending on what you were up against, but I don't just mean the awkward elemental versions. Stuffy or Astronaut, Zen cactus or Captain Cannon or whatever!
For me it's the whole unique package of lots of things that has kept me playing. I do think BFN needs more variety somehow with the characters. I worry the appeal will be short-lived otherwise, with some long-term players disappointed & new players just hopping on to whatever the next big shooter is 🌻
