I fell in love with the game too & when he moved on to other games I carried on. It is fun, not gritty, somehow people of all skill levels can play & enjoy it and because it's played by all sorts of ages the PvZ community feels to me a bit like a family. Admittedly you get the distant cousins or in-laws you're not keen on as well (!) but by & large it's played by a great bunch of people.
I have had thousands of hours of fun in both games & made friends I consider to be real life ones, not just game friends.
I loved the variants giving you choice of play styles, depending on what you were up against, but I don't just mean the awkward elemental versions. Stuffy or Astronaut, Zen cactus or Captain Cannon or whatever!
For me it's the whole unique package of lots of things that has kept me playing. I do think BFN needs more variety somehow with the characters. I worry the appeal will be short-lived otherwise, with some long-term players disappointed & new players just hopping on to whatever the next big shooter is 🌻
I thought I would miss variants but I don't at all. so far .., longevity is another question.
However, I think they will be adding more characters, they have said as much or hinted. And I look forward to exploring these new characters.
I would like to think they had much more planned, and that includes new maps.
Really though the devs need be be concentrating on getting the game is running smoothly for everyone atm, PC performance, challenges, aiming, etc etc etc before anything else.
Anyway, Global Release is on Thursday so heres hoping that all goes well and with any luck delivers us some surprises too 🙂
Edit: forgot to answer the OPs question...
I play this game franchise because its the most fun Ive ever had playing computer games... I normally don't last 2 weeks with any game.
I found gw2 and played happily (mostly) for hours, for months... was great fun. Whacky characters .... colours etc ❤️
I love the fact that the age of players varies as it does and everybody can have fun in this game... thats a great thing.
So when BFN came out I was super excited...
YAY... woohoo and all that.
And truth is I do love it... despite the constant issues on PC we have stuck to it... performance issues, black screens, stuck screens, settings issues, etc etc... (and some of them still persist) and issues within the game, fingers crossed they all get fixed.
In the meantime I will continue to play and support both games. 🙂
