Limiting Variants

I suggested this in a thread too, even now Electro Brainz and Sharkbite are quite manageable when they are not abused, instead they increase the quality of gameplay., but still in a way you can handle them.

Sometimes balance changes comes to people habits and attitudes, and they are not always often being in pair with being really overpowered, and the fact you named toxic pea imho is a proof of it.
As you dislike to get killed over and over by the same character you start feed the feel of frustration that those characters may give the opponents some unfair chance of winning.

Not to mention that are some typologies of character that by nature they just give the feel of frustration to play against, usually in any strategic games.. are always the same... burst-nuker characters and poker/harasser one.
In the end, usually burst-nuker character, are also hard or not safe to play and tend to have a low-winrate too, but this doesn't matter, as the only thing that matter overall in a community where the level of skill-flow and general knowledge is next to casual, what really matters is if that character gives you bad feelings or not.

I think that limiting variants is a extremely good idea for many reasons:

- make grind for the max level a little bit more worth since you could have chance to not use what you like

- meta will be always perfectly balanced except very really minor threats

- devs wil be less scary to buffs and tend less to nerf things

- will make team comp much more balanced, look at the current plant situation with all these Corn spam, Corn is not that Op but still spammed, overall by newbies, creating a unique imbalance game when a low level player can't even make himself carryable.

For this reasons and maybe others i forgot to say i would say that limiting variants (and not class or stocking variants) will make the game much more enjoyable.

I think the only big problem is, despite it sound a cool and fantastic idea,is a little bit hard to make in act with programming, overall because all players when the match start have to choose, and bugs could happen.
Problem could still be solved in some ways but this will require an entire re-program for that, and it will take too much efforts.

I would agree with this if this was Quke 3 Team Arena (a version of Quake 3 with runes that give you unique class-like abilities) , TF2 Highlander/6s or competitive Overwatch, but in a purely pub based game like this, their is no reason. The game is mostly played by kids or casuals that don't care if they (ab)use an OP character or if their team is stacked with 7 Deadbeards/Cacti on offense. They want to play whatever they want and they should. This would be great for a competitive mode, but this is an absurd just for fun shooter designed for casuals and kids like GW+ (despite some people saying it's a hyper competitive niche shooter), so this idea would go against the whole mentality of the game. If a competitive mode is added, a class and variant limit is of course mandatory, but people that wan't to play competitive and win the game are capable of building working teams, even without communication. And if you accuse me of only playing the OP Plants and Zombies, I have to ask you if you consider Iron Citron, the Golf Star and the Camo Cactus (my main variants at this moment) OP.

So what you're saying is that you want to absolutely gut the gameplay only to make people not abuse overpowered characters anymore?

What's the point of playing a balanced game when it's not even fun?

It's much, oh so much better for us to just wait until Popcap learns to balance better.

I'm still at the belief that if someone would want to play a particular variant,they should be able to no matter what.

What if I want to play something like basic corn,but couldn't because two other player in my team also play it? It neither a problem nor a hindrance to the team to that 3 baisc corn at the same time.

If a variant end up being too dominant,just nerf it. Don't limit all variant in a game because of that.

overwatch nailed so many features that needed to be in GW 

half a year  ago i made a suggestion post saying the game needs to suggest you what class to play when you load into a game 

and maybe even reward a player playing a missing / needed class 

in overwatch when you pick a class it tells you if the team is missing a tank or healers or has too many of a certain class 

i cant locate my post 

but the idea was you would have reward spots for variants getting more coin if you play them 

at any time there would be 2 reward spot for flower players for example 

if a team has no flowers the game would suggest you to play a flower and fill those reward spots 

of course you could still play whatever you want and the entire team could play flowers 

but having two reward spots for each class might help combat half the team being corn for example and having 6 players on the same class

there will always be 2 reward spot giving more coin if there are less then 2 of a class playing 

Currently most common plant teams are 2 pea shooters, 6 corns, 2 citrons, and 1 of any other classes

Currently most common zombie teams are 3 imps, 4 super brainz, 2 pirates, 2 scientist, and 1 of any other class

If people are picking these classes than there is something really wrong with balance 

After the update the plants will stay the same but zombies will become 5 imps, 4 pirates, 1 super brainz, 1 scientist, 1 of any other class.
