Looking to buy again - Is this game still unbalanced?

Hi,

I brought this game when it first came out, I also returned it not long afterwards as Rose was way too OP and my career as a plant player (sunflower mostly) just didn't seem fair or fun anymore (compared to GW1).

However its been a while since then and I was hoping the updates have adjusted the question of balance; I would like to buy it again as its on offer on the PS4, but my questions to the community are.....

  1. Is Rose still OP and dominating the game (is there any character that is dominating the game)?
  2. Is one team more powerful than the other (plants or zombies)?
  3. Are the original GW1 characters still out of place...too weak compared to the new classes?
  4. Essentially is this game still unplayable?

    I dont know how many players the PS4 has, but on PC this game is dying. A lot of new players yes, who mostly play the game for 5 hours and then quit forever, but there is a majority lack of high level players.

    1. Rose got a major nerf after the Graveyardvarity DLC, but they decided to take the nerfes back. Shes quite the same, really strong, mostly OP and only got a dmg (-1) and healt (-25) nerf. A good player can reach 100+ kills with her.

    2. Obviously plants are extremly easy to play, high splash dmg, spam abilities², fast and no skill, for example they buffed electro pea who was balanced twice, now hes stronger than GW1 toxicpea. Everybody can go up to 100 kills with EP. Most players play plants, since the zombies are bad in defense and lazy in attacking, plants win most of the time. In my opinion they are stronger than Zombs, but its the team that makes the match.

    3. They changed almost every GW1 character, so that they can keep up with the OP GW2 characters. They are all powerful, but feels so different to GW1. The GW2s are still top madness, they are upgraded versions of the old ones: Scubasoldier > Tankcommander, Electropea > Toxicpea, Vampireflower > any other flower, Zen and petrified cacti are on point, Citron/Superbrainz > Allstar, Computer and Zoologist > most of the other scientists and so on and so on.

    It is a great shame about GW2, GW1 was just incredible and then they went all OTT and fixed something that wasn't broken (GW1 zombie team was slightly too powerful IMO...but that was it).
     
    It makes sense why GW1 (an old game) is still expensive on the PS4, I can only imagine that demand has kept the price up. For now Overwatch will do, but I do miss the humor, colour, fun and the almost-there-balance of GW1.

    I am on Xbox and GW2 is pretty good and the newer players are sticking around ranking up nicely.  The Rose can be dealt with and I hardly see anyone with over 30/35 kills on TT.  You'll find videos of some dude getting 100 kills with Rose but this never happens.  The game I feel is balanced even though I completely agree with @Schattenpflanze regarding his plant / zombie analysis.  The plants win most of the time on Xbox and I feel sometimes the plants are OP...but probably in reality there are just too many players that gravitate to the plant side (I prefer zombies myself).  I've really enjoyed GW2 and my girlfriend gets mad at me for still playing after all of these months but I probably won't give it up anytime soon.

    Funny,  I dont feel that the plants are OP at all. I feel its the other way around.
    And I dont win much at all as a Plant. Are we even playing the same game ? 🙂

    Rose is still OP and can reach 100 kills? i'd like proof of people doing that often cause i've surely seen nothing like that at all since she got nerfed the first time (which was only about 2 weeks after the game came out from what i recall). There are still people every now and then complaining here about how rose was nerfed too much and is a bad character now even though she has been perfectly fine since the nerf.

    Elctro pea i have also seen nothing about him being OP and getting that many kills. Either you guys have have some really skilled players going up against a lot of awful players on PC or are hacking because it isn't anything like that at all on Ps4

    Here is the biggest German Youtuber, at 09:10 he shows a 124 kills gameplay of on of his friends, he also got over 100 kills:

    Kiripatchi is a famous PC gamer and also a Youtuber, he said a lot of times that this character is out of balance, since hes an objective player he "only" got 56 kills in this on:

    Most of the time the electro pea players cant reach the 100 kills, since zombies getting wrecked anyway or the game ends with the first garden. The same thing goes for rose, just search up other forums or youtube, there are always guys reaching 100+ kills, but it aint no 10 players, more like 1000 and more.

    I just want to say, when you got 100 kills in GW1 you were a freaking legend even with a Z4 or toxic pea, now with this idiotic OP-ness and shared vanquishes it got standard, you can find more then 1 player per day raising up to the top with spamming abilities and shots into random directions. That and so much more annoying things are the reason I stopped the multiplayer months ago, @Obi-Stu-2 the chances for an upcoming DLC are tending towards zero, what makes the game for highlevelplayers like me (max rank + almost 1000 hours of gameplay) even more boring.

    Some huge and epic games just came out a few days ago, For Honor, Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda are just a few examples. I think its time for a BIG DLC, 1 Turfmap, 1 OPSmap, new variants for all classes, new items, new gamemode, I would even pay for that, but when nothing comes out this game lost me and my teammates.

    There is the whole argument of how a high skill player cannot demonstrate this, because of their very skill.  But this guy made a pretty good effort to play casually with lots of spam.  I'm not taking a side, just adding to the conversation.  I play electro pea in TT sometimes, because I am a med-low skill player.  Using the powerful character just gets me to the middle of the board.
