My Steam Blaster Review
This upgrade is very frustrating and I believe it's OP. I LOVE playing the scientist and i feel like it takes a lot of skill balance out killing and healing. This upgrade, I cant consistently get v...
Sunflower was actually top tier in the previous patches but now she can’t no longer sustain her tanky like play style anymore. Even with three charges she’s easier to kill than the previous version of her so she’s definitely no longer top tier anymore. For scientist I complained hard about how lack luster he was in the past. In previous patches for example he had very poor reload speed anmo capacity and damage output. Those were his issues in the past for being the worst character in the game but obviously he’s not even close from the worst. Scientist regular primary has hit reg issues up close and still do but the sb doesn’t have that issue which means all dps and accuracy counts which is great. To me this is scientist, this should’ve been his main primary like there’s no issues no flaws but just a great top tier weapon overall.
I have yet to unlock it but from what I've seen it's just too good with a character that has 3 teleports and a self heal ability. I have seen videos on it and have played against it a couple of times, and while I was able to mostly avoid its effects so far, it at least appears to be extremely powerful and may well need to see some changes, if not to the blaster itself than to the teleportation ability and maybe the heal thingy as well.
@mikepal19 there's been a lot of complaints about the BfN Scientist having 3 instant teleports (as opposed to 2 with activation time in the GW games). It died down a bit after other changes awhile back but with this new weapon it's something to consider in the overall package.
Because Scientist has 3 instant warps and can sprint, he is very difficult to kill and is not fun to play against. There's almost no reason to chase him, and the warps make him almost idiot proof. A player can walk into a group of plants, a bean bomb, or a chomper, and then immediately teleport out of danger. The skill of "managing warps" is barely a skill now, especially for a passive scientist. Back in GW, managing the 2 warps was more of a skill. You could use 1 warp to close the distance, and then keep the other warp to teleport out of danger. You also had to watch your HP so you wouldn't die mid-warp.
The whole thing of supports was that they needed a team to protect them and work effectively. It's a huge reason why I respect Sunflower, and dislike playing Scientist. Sunflower does not have the mobility or survivability of other classes, and for the most part relies on her teammates and good positioning. Scientist does not have to rely on these things.
When fighting a team with a support, there are 2 options. Kill the support first, or fight the team being supported. Fighting a team being supported is much harder than killing the support and then fighting the team. But when the support is this difficult to kill, the only good option is to kill the team being supported so the support is forced to retreat.
