i have the same issue, but except that I didn't not install any mod and I still ended up with 1k gifts. I hope someone can just delete them from my account because it's triggering my OCD
So I had been playing solo play and solo ops for some time and I thought of playing a few multiplayer matches. I then matchmaked in the America server for garden ops and played at normal difficulty with the stranger. Then I went back to my yard to see I have 1366 gifts unopened for no reason. Before that I have 0 gifts.
I don't know how to fix this. I ain't playing another match of garden ops with strangers until this issue is fixed
