The PvZ: Game of the Year Edition I purchased is asking for a product key. Where should I look for it?
I've been struggling with this issue too.
This only happens on a PC we have where we upgraded from Origin to EA App. We have a second device which recently had a clean install of Windows, this problem does not occur on that device and the game runs fine.
I decided to go hunting for whatever 'stuck' files must be left on the device causing this issue.
1. Close the EA app.
2. From Task Manager end any EA processes, (for me there was a single background process that needed stopping)
3. Navigate to the C:\ProgramData folder (you may need to grant yourself permission to access this folder)
4. Delete all EA folders and the PvZ folder
5. Restart the EA app and try the game again
I've attached a screen shot of the exact folders I deleted to make this work. This was probably overkill, my suspicion is there is a single file, most likely in the PlantsvsZombies folder that was causing the issue.
Not sure if this will work for others, but thought I'd share just in case.
- @in2action This solved the issue for me. Thank you.
I wanted to load up Plants v. Zombies Game of the Year, as I frequently do when I am procrastinating bedtime, and I got the attached screen. I have hundreds of hours in this game. I logged several hours playing just this weekend and had no issues loading it because I provided the damn product key way back when I bought the game. Please stop jacking with the games I have payed money to own. This should not be a fix on my end because I've done nothing different to my computer since the last time I played without issue.
- @in2action Thanks so much. EA's support (email & chat) was useless.

@far-traveler If you are still running into the error you attached, take a look at the thread here! It is for other games as they are having similar issues, but the main issue itself seems to really be the same.
Let me know if this works out for you!
Cheers!
Thanks for getting back to me.
I am trying the steps in the link you posted, but step 2 ("In the "License" folder, where you should be if you've followed the above-shared steps, check if you can see a file called "71067.dlf".") has that number 71067, which I assume is specific to the game being addressed in the link (Mass Effect). I have several EA games and I don't know which one is specifically Plants v. Zombies. The only one listed by game title is the one for Sims 3. The others are just strings of numbers. Do you happen to know which number corresponds to PvZ?

@far-traveler From what i can see on my own, you cannot. The only way to know is to reinstall the game and then sort them by the date modified. I don't even see it in my own. This is one of those steps you could just delete them all if you wanted to really and launch the game again or just reinstall it. The other steps are more crucial really than that one. It wont hurt if you delete them all though.

hi, are you from england or other countries with english as native language?
if not, try this:
1. unistall game
2. change game language in english
3. reinstall
4 game should work, it worked to other EU players who had the game in native language and not in english
hope it can help
btw it's a common problem EA assistance cannot find a solution. i'm waiting since june - ExLo053 years agoSeasoned Adventurer
@in2action nice you find another work around. for me and other EU player non english native speakers fix was: change language from our native to english and stop. game working as usual
