[PC] PvZ Error Failed to Open File
My much played Plants vs. Zombies stopped working this weekend. Every time I try to start the game I get a "Error reading user file" "Invalid user file."

Community Manager@maddydumont Owning the game then vs now wouldn't make any difference. When you install the game through the EA app, it will create or should create an EA Games folder by default. If you install it through Steam, it may add it to another location but the license folder should populate regardless of when the game was purchased.
When you go into the programdata folder on your drive you aren't seeing an \Electronic Arts\EA Services folder at all. Do you have more than one drive?
I just installed it on a new machine and it populated the moment I started downloading the game.
Why would I download the game again? It's been there all this time. There is no EA folder because I bought and downloaded it from PopCap, I never downloaded it again from EA, and I don't think I should have to. I just like playing this one higher level game over and over again and I don't want to start again. It's a mental health coping tool for me and I am really missing it, this is why I'm trying to fix this and get back to playing it.
So, please clarify, do I have to download it again from EA?

I should clarify, this is a PC, not a portable device, and thus I didn't get aps from aps, I downloaded directly via web purchase with software maker. I'm that old.

@maddydumont That error is related to the gamed entitlements, and profile data linked to the EA account. The only way to know if it is resolved it is to download the game again. There really arent many steps to a game that is this old that was installed that long ago. A lot has changed in 10 years so it is possible that after the migration of PopCap with EA, it's not recognizing you own the game.
If you are not wanting to redownload that is okay but there isn't much else you can do unless you redownload the gams as none of the folders that should be there are there. That limits troubleshooting completely.
