I like this game too woot and I would install anything if it means I can play more of this wonderful game origin may not have the best overlay or a good amount of games but atleast you can disable the overlay so you don't accidently open it. but i must say that unless you meet the recommended(well over the min) requirements don't buy this game or until most of the crash bugs have ways to be fixed or are explained as to why it happens.

150% agree!!!
If you want me to say something negative... You darn devs should put better "Minimum" requirements on your games. PvZ and all games. List multiple ones from multiple generations. This is valid for almost all PC games regardless of who makes them.
8800GT gives me an idea what this game runs on... it does not give an idea to other people because how many regular people are into computer hardware enough to know how an 8 year old higher-end GPU compares to today's landscape of APU/IGPs and lower end GPUs?
Game Debate on the other hand... has some pretty high requirments. I've run the game perfect 60fps on lesser systems than it suggests. (Two thumbs up, I rather see high rather than low requirements... people don't like disappointment... however it could be a bit toned down and still be overkill)
----
Here's a list I pulled out of my butt on the fly ; I do not have all the hardware or time to test all these (110% guess-ti-mations on the fly)
8800 GT //or// 9800 GT //or// 280m //or// 360m //or// 555m //or// 640m //or// 740 //or// 640 //or// .... etc
It isn't uncommon for game makers to ignore the mobile GPU segment. Some games even straight up say "No laptop support", they obviously run on laptops if the laptop has the horsepower however.
Same for ATi. List an Intel IGP too (i.e. HD 4600 / 5000)! List a minimum AMD APU too!
Some of the people who are buying this game... the 8800 GT was new when they were in diapers. It's 8 darn years old!!
That's a conversation worth having in my opinion... not Steam vs Origin... that's my 2 cents though take it, leave it or hate me.

Sounds like software is interfering. Like a firewall or antivirus program. BitDefender, NOD32, Norton and others have been the issues for other people.
It could be something silly like PeerBlock or your router/modem just needs a good power cycle. Maybe your router is being overzealous even, can you connect to other EA multiplayer games?
Clear the host file out.
