Plants Vs. Zombies Battle For Neighborville: 1 Year Later | Dead Overnight

Just wanted to share this YouTube video I came across recently. IMHO, it's one of the smartest and most entertaining reviews of BFN I've seen.

  • @lookinin Thank you for sharing it with us. I agree with many of his points as he makes quite a few good ones, but it is evident he hasn't played the game much in recent months. He also spread some false information - like saying you can't find a single lobby with real people. That is only the case on pc and even there you can find lobbies of turf frequently, just not the other modes. He says that on console you "might occasionally" find one. That is just a lie.
The game has a healthy player base on consoles. He shouldn't be talking about it if he never tried it on consoles.
I also dislike how he talks about the soundtrack - "it is so laaaaame". I get that remakes of old songs can seem lame, but their great nevertheless and the new maps feature some of the best original tracks in PvZ history. I also don't like some of his statements about the maps, he talks if they are objectively bad. All of this is subjective, so he shouldn't treat it as a fact.
I know the comment sound negative, but as I said, he makes some good points. I juts wish he made a clearer distinction between facts and opinions and didn't spread wrong information. I mean most of what he got wrong he could have looked up on google in 2 seconds ...

@benn1nat0r You're of course correct. I was really thinking about the presentation - fast, witty and humorous. I got a kick out of it.

@benn1nat0r to your point: I still play BFN everyday on PC and there's usually a decent amount of players in my lobby. But, I do see more players on GW2 & GW1 these days than I do on BFN. BFN may have unintentionally helped those two games.

  • He's largely correct in that video, and I can't much to disagree on, but I do disagree on a couple points like the music, I expect and want the old music to be around as it links the games all together. That's the strongest disagreement for me here.

I can't speak on console lobbies but considering how many console players complain about bots in their matches, it's obviously an issue there too, even if it is likely worse on PC. I've stuck to private lobbies since the announcement of no new content so can't say on PC lobbies, although as you mention @lookinin , I'm seeing a lot of people, returning and new, on GW2 these days. Just this morning I had to get a triple vanquish streak 3 times on NA East, and even though it was fairly early in the morning, I was able to get a full lobby and get a couple TT matches in.

Edit: On variants and balance-none of these games have perfect balance, and BfN is no exception. In theory, it should be the easiest to balance with only 23 characters, and it isn't plagued with broken characters like Toxic Brainz and detonation characters, but it certainly could use some work in that department. For variants, the idea of replacing variants with completely unique characters would actually be better, and could add a lot of cool new looks, outfits, and abilities, but it didn't work out that way as they would have needed to release more new characters more quickly for it to work out well, and we only got the Wizard and later on the 2 swarm characters that are rather lackluster.
