While I'm generally the polar opposite in that I like to think positively & would try to soften anything I say so I don't hurt people's feelings, I think it would be better to face facts.
Regardless of whatever mysterious happenings have been going on at PopCap, EA will have been collecting data on player numbers, game sales & micro-transactions for many, many months before taking this decision.
They will have weighed up the investment already put into the game & the amount needed to continue bringing out new content plus all the related admin costs to work out if it's financially viable to carry on.
I hate seeing all the upset & sad reactions but I actually think this is the best & most honest communication on the game the community has had in a long, long time.
The most important thing is that the bugs & balance are addressed to put the game in the best possible state and remember, the servers aren't going down so everyone will be able to continue playing if they want to.
Good luck with the xp, Gormey! 😜🤣

@ToastedSarnie Thank you for the nice reply 😃.
I can clearly see your more positive approach.
The riot part was just an attempt at humor (indicate by the emoji, I know I'm not a funny person 😉)
Maybe I should have said "I feared there would be someone starting a group therapy session for me", since the title says @Gormey wants to help me and @TheSprinter85 letting go.
I very much understand EA operates for profit, not love. Many publishers and studios have shown that both is possible, though. Just take a look at the Ratchet & Clank series and Insomniac games. They tried to innovate to keep the series alive, but always listened to their fans and returned to a more traditional style for the franchise after being asked to do it. They're awesome ❤️. Now insomniac games is so successful they were bought by Sony. I don't really like being forced to buy a PS5, though. I think the xbox is shaping up to have the way better hardware, but that doesn't matter to me as it has no games I like. Microsoft has also way more pro consumer practices. Sony is even disallowed using PS4 controller for PS5 games, even though the changes are small gimmicks and no game will end up using them (like the touchpad and light bar). Sorry for getting off topic, but I thought I'd give the example of a company I love.
It still could be profitable to allocate a few more employees to BfN. They could finish Iceburg Lettuce. If they don't. 6 months of work is rendered useless. I think they are evaluating if spending a bit more to get it released would make profit, which I think it very well will. I hope it will be released, but I remain pessimistic
I'm sure @Gormey will continue to have fun vanquishing plants in Team Vanquish, those weeds! (reference to gw boss mode trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbPxO92j4eA)
Thank you for reading, have a good time and stay healthy 🙂!
- 5 years ago@benn1nat0r I was fairly sure you were joking, but wanted to make sure 😊
I agree there are studios who do manage things differently, though I'm not familiar with the titles you mentioned - are they PS exclusives?
I'm on Xbox but I won't comment on the merits & disadvantages of it, PS or PC - don't want to start a console war debate on top of everything else 😬🤣
Take care & most of all have fun - in whichever game you find it 👍- benn1nat0r5 years agoSeasoned Ace
@TheSprinter85 Hooray for me, Zoidberg!
BfN fans at 2:30. : "Nice and gentle, we don't want any unnecessary stress.". Then EA jumps out of the water.
I just quickly wanted to reply to this again, I hope you don't mind me tagging you.
Thank you for being this nice and even making sure I don't feel bad about the comments.
As for the Ratchet and Clank games: Yes, they are PS exclusives. They were some of Playstation biggest mascots in the PS2 days. Although I love these games with a passion, they have also disappointed me. The series had 6 original games on PS3, with the 4 original games being remastered on PS3 in HD and with trophy support. The PS4 had only 1 game of the franchise and it was a reimagining of the first one. It removed the story of 2 people who were completely different becoming friends over time and saving the galaxy. Instead, the 2 met each other and became friends instantly. They simplified the story to a generic "I want to be a super hero" story and removed the adult jokes, which the series, in part, is famous for. I mean if you google Ratchet and Clank and the google pop up comes up listing all of the games from the series, you will see the titles can all be interpreted in "special" ways. The franchise is 100% kid friendly, but has some subtle adult humor thrown in there. So it is like the first 3 season of Spongebob in this regard. My disappointment didn't last long, however, because the developers (Insomniac games) have announced Ratchet & Clank: Rift apart for PS5. It looks very promising so far, although there are some things about it I don't really like.
The games are really great and I love them. I don't know if you'd be interested in them, but I thought I'd link some videos that highlight why I love the franchise. The first one is about a charming reoccurring villain. The second one ist just weird moments taken out of context. If you watch them and end up liking them, you can get ps now for a month and try the games. The ps3 games are all on the service and ps now is also available on pc (I don't know if it works with an xbox controller, if not, there might be some tools that make the service think you have a ds4)
Just to give you a taste, here's some dialogue:
Ratchet to Clank: "Look, plumber's crack!"
Plumber: "What did you just say?"
Ratchet: "Um I said, look, .... the plumber's back."
I hope you don't mind me recommending the games to you. If you don't like them that's fine, I just thought I'd share something I like as much as PvZ with you.
P.S I'm also open to game suggestions, if someone has any. (I know @TheSprinter85 likes Terraria and its devs, since he made a post explaining why they are doing so well)
