Private Play (Guide)!

Greetings everyone,

This guide will cover the Private Play aspect of the game, such as what Private Play is, how to initiate Private Play, and what settings you can change in this mode, as well as other relevant information. Here is what you need to know about Private Play in order to get started.

What is Private Play?

Private Play is an option that can be selected in the Multiplayer Terminal. When you enter the Multiplayer Terminal, there are 2 available modes: Multiplayer and Private Play. As most of you would know, Multiplayer is where you team up and battle with other players. Private Play is similar, but not quite the same. The difference is that, instead of playing with other players, you team up and battle with Al allies and enemies, instead of other players. You can also do this mode with up to 3 friends or other players, by inviting them. You can use this mode to complete challenges, practice your skills or to simply have fun. Other players you play with can be on your team or on the enemy team. You can also customise your private game to your liking, such as deciding what game mode to play (you have extra game mode options that do not permanently appear in Multiplayer), deciding which map to play on, picking which difficulty you want to play on and you can change the team sizes, as well as being able to add Crazy Settings! Note that picking some types of selections may result in getting reduced Coins or XP in a match, but if you are fine with that, fiddle around with these options anyway if you wish. You do not need to wait to get into games, as you play with Al (instead of other players), you can play it without needing Xbox Live or PS Plus and you may do this mode as often as you like. If this interests you, feel free to jump in whenever! You can also switch teams during the match if you feel like it.

PRIVATE PLAY FEATURES

Private Play is a mode that you can do whenever you want and all that, here are the features broken down for this mode:

  • You can do without Xbox Live or PS Plus, if on Console (but you do need a "stable internet connection").
  • You can do this mode at any time.
  • You can play this mode with up to 3 other players.
  • You can use this mode to complete challenges, or gain other rewards.
  • You can pick what game mode you want to do.
  • You can pick what map you want to play on.
  • You can switch teams.
  • You can change settings and features.
  • Your game will not start until you have selected your character.

Maps

You are able to select any map you wish. The map options will vary based on game modes. Turf Takeover has its own set of maps. Mixed Modes and most other game modes has their own common types of Maps that are different to Turf Takeover.

Game Mode

You can select any Game Mode that you want, such as Turf Takeover, Team Vanquish, Gnome Bomb and so on. There are also a bunch of options that are not permanently available in the Multiplayer mode of the Multiplayer Terminal, or they only occasionally appear as Weekly Events, but in Private Play, you can these otherwise limited time modes at any time.

Difficulty

You can change the difficulty of the match you are about to play in before you play a match. However, unless you do the highest difficulty setting, your Coin and XP modifier will be reduced compared to playing in Multiplayer, meaning you will get less Coins and XP overall. The difficulties, in ascending order, are: Easy, Medium, Hard and Crazy! Use Easy if you are a beginner player or want to complete challenges, but use Crazy! if you really want a challenge and want to test yourself, or to get more Coins and XP. The Coin and XP modifiers are as follows:

  • Easy gives 0.25x Coins and XP!
  • Normal gives 0.5x Coins and XP!
  • Hard gives 0.75x Coins and XP!
  • Crazy! gives 1x Coins and XP!

Higher difficulties mean higher enemy damage towards you and other players you play with. These values are compared to playing in Multiplayer.

Team Setup

With the team setup settings, you can decide how many Al will be on each team, and what Al the game will pick to be in the match. If unchanged, all Al can appear in the game. You can remove specific Al in this section so that specific Al on a team will not appear in your lobby. You are able to change the size of the teams as well, and you can add or remove Al (or change which Al can appear) in between matches as well.

Crazy Settings

Crazy Settings allow your match to be much more fun, funny and hysterical. However, if you use a Crazy Setting (or several), you will not get much money or XP at all. But it is good to try out for fun. Crazy Settings change specific elements to the game, and you can toggle them on and off as follows, here are the choices:

  • Low Gravity - all characters can float and jump really high.
  • Low Health - all characters have 1 health. You may need some shields.
  • Speed Boost Craziness - all characters move super fast.
  • Simply Explode Mode - all characters explode when they are vanquished.
  • Time Warp - all characters move slower for a bit when damaged.
  • Super Crazy Knock-back Mode - all characters take lots of knockback when hit, even if the attack would not deal knockback.

CONCLUSION

If you would like more information on Private Play and setting it up, you can check out this website, https://www.guidestash.com/guide/plants-vs-zombies-battle-for-neighborville/how-to-create-a-private-match-in-pvz-battle-for-neighborville/. I did use some of this information in the making of this guide as well.

Private Play is an interesting twist compared to when playing regular Multiplayer modes, and this was a fairly recently added feature to the game, that many players have wanted since the game was originally released. It allows you to create your own matches at any time, especially if you struggle to find lobbies with other players sometimes, or there is another reason that you cannot or do not want to access Multiplayer. It is a good way to relax with friends, have a fun time or complete challenges. There are many elements and interesing settings that you can use to create a fun match for you, and that you can utilise, and experiment with.

Hopefully this guide helps you to start Private Play and have some fun, so jump in if that sounds fun!

Me out!

@ShadowPea127 No issue at all. I think it was very good that Private Play was added before the game got discontinued - a large portion of the community wanted it.

@TheSprinter85Yes, I think they added Private Play and Ai backfill in multiplayer so that we could at least have one playable and enjoyable PvZ shooter until EA decides the franchise is ready to be milked again in 10 years.

Hopefully not the case but that could be why Private Play was added.
