purchased Plants vs Zombies, now won't let me play

Bought plant v zombies garden warfare. Now it won't work. I have gold. but now looks like I need EA access to play online. Do I need gold and ea access?  This is weak sauce, borderline pathetic if yo...

@surfbrew  You do not need EA Access to play if you have purchased a copy of the game. Are you receiving an error message?
