PvE in Neighborville is grindy and "unfun"

I was looking forward to the open-world maps in Neighborville the most, which is why I am disappointed in the results.  Each area starts out fun and exciting.  Indeed, I enjoyed the 4 main story quests for each zone.  However, there are too many spikes in difficulty once you finish the story.  After losing six straight times to Mimic Gnight (costing 300 badges), I feel certain PvE issues need to be addressed:

- Costs for gnome monoliths are much too high

- All forms of currency payouts are very low

- Solo Ops, Battle Chests, Gnome bosses and battles are broken (too difficult)

- AI is very aggressive and never seem to miss a moving target (to the point I wonder if they are bugged)

For reference, I am a max level Garden Warfare 2 player, having completed all of the trophies, and conquered Infinity Time and the Trials of Gnomus.  I've played GW2 more than any MMO, RPG, or shooter.  Even though there was plenty of negative feedback about the gnome areas of GW2, it appears that PopCap has doubled down on the difficulty of the single-player(?) content.

If I could describe the late game areas of Neighborville, it would be "unfun".  With PvP unbalanced and PvE too grindy, I am losing the desire to play a game that is less than a month old.
