It's different in the sense raising the flag has virtually no load time, you cannon ball to the flag, you raise the flag in about 8 seconds you get swarmed w/easy to kill plants or zombies. The 1st wave is cake and you get coins when you're done...having a 2x XP modifier for that is just too easy. The first wave could essentially have 1 hp like custom options which low health reduces the xp modifier as well. 1st plant/zombie wave done, collect coins...repeat. Too easy for games now that encourage grinding.
When I need to bang out some kill missions quickly and raising the flag tends to be the best and quickest option.
It's not a flat x0.50 multiplier, it's one quarter of whatever your current multiplier is. That is, if your XP multiplier was x1.00, your flag of power multiplier would be x0.25, then x0.31 for x1.25, x0.37 for x1.50, and so on. So your multiplier still has an effect, but Flag of Power is not meant to be an all-day XP farm fest so you can boost and give other players the false impression that you might be somebody. Play some multiplayer.
