Re: 6 of my last 8 games in ranked (gold league) against taco or UL

The ranking definitely needs to improve and/or better rewards if you face significantly higher ranked players.  Should probably have an option to check off if you are OK facing significantly higher ranked players or else you are OK to wait in queue longer.

I have a theory about Casual mode.  I suspect that both players are not playing Casual mode (otherwise why would low rank players concede against higher level ranked players they face), meaning one can be playing Ranked while one is playing Casual mode. I also suspect Casual mode lifts the normal ranking rules on the player looking for a match.  For example, if Ranked match rules are they immediately search for an opponent +/- 5 levels, I think Casual does away with that and just selects the first opponent that comes along on the opposing side.

If my hypothesis for Casual mode is true, it's doing no favours for the match ranking of Ranked mode.

  • That hypothesis is incorrect. It was actually an idea I brought up to the team in order to cut wait times and do a better job with matchmaking. But I was told 1. They don't think people would like it and 2. It would be illegal for them to do and not let us know.

Heh.  I guess I'm a little surprised people then that people concede so frequently out of the shute to ULs/vastly higher level ranked players if they've nothing to lose in Casual Mode.  It's their choice, but still surprised.

  • It's a good theory @BPRDHB, never thought of anything like it.

But giving it a second look, it makes little sense.

I mean, if a rank 50 is playing Casual and the rank 20 is on Ranked, it is making the climb to the low rank harder.

If the rank 50 is on Ranked and the rank 20 is on Casual, then the outcome of the match is unimportant.

Either the low rank beats a rank 50 for free, or the rank 50 wins a star that doesn't need.

I have always just figured that when they see the rainbow star and dragonfruit that immediately puts some levels of players into a "screw this noise" frame of mind.
And in casual it means nothing to concede...the other guy gained 15 tickets for the event card...big effin deal...and you can try again.
What I think is a good idea for many lower levels that are sick of facing UL stalkers that are, some in my opinion, there basically to * you off enough to disconnect(rage quit) or concede.
I play a fair amount of casual because it is less stressful than MUST WIN attitude of league play, amd and if I run into too many "cheap decks" I just want to reach through the screen and choke you... I go play random battle with the cpu lol

I didn't say it made sense, just where my mind has wandered.  😉
