Re: EXTREME LAG - Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare

Try resetting nVidia Control Panel 3D Properties to global defaults.  ((do not re-run GeForce Experience optimize))

Try deleting the Docuemnts\PvZ folder  (a fresh one is made on next launch)

If you have a custom user.cfg file in the base of your PvZ directory try removing it.

Try Uninstalling and reinstalling the latest nVidia drivers again.

  • Thanks for the reply WootCandy. I tried all of the things you mentioned except for the custom user.cfg file. I couldn't find that on my computer. I reinstalled garden warfare also and noticed that the hotkeys I had set were still the same, so maybe I'm just missing the cfg file somewhere. Do you know where I might find that on my computer? I'm still havin the same issue after a few of the troubleshooting ideas. I'll keep trying and get back with any progress I make. If you think of any other ideas I could try to fix the issue, please post them here. Thank you.

A user.cfg is a user-made file placed in the base directory of the PvZ folder (not documents, the Origin Games folder).  If you didn't make or add one it isn't there.

    Some more ideas.

    Clean Boot

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Disable any overlay programs (FRAPs, RiviaTuner, etc etc ((things that put stuff infront of the game's screen like frame rate counters))).  Overlay programs and Origin in Game do not get along at all.

Disable Origin in Game  (some features need this (join friends, coin shop)... but maybe it's causing issues).  Do it by right click inside Origin.

If you want to make a user.cfg ..  Most of these I doubt even work for PvZ..   The only one to really play with that works is the first one 0,1,2,3.. I forget but I think 3 is game's default?  The second bolded one is a frame rate limiter.  You should be able to hit 60fps stable on a 750ti.

    Open Notepad.
    Copy and Paste this:

    RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1
    PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 0
    PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1
    PostProcess.DofMethod 0
    PostProcess.BlurMethod 0
    PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 0
    PostProcess.DynamicAOMethod 0
    Render.VSyncFlashTestEnable 0
    WorldRender.TransparencyShadowmapsEnable 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0
    WorldRender.MotionForceOn 0
    WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapEnable 0
    WorldRender.SpotlightShadowmapResolution 256
    WorldRender.LightTileCsPathEnable 0
    RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 0
    RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1Enable 0
    RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1RuntimeEnable 0
    RenderDevice.VSyncEnable 0
    RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
    GameTime.MaxVariableFps 60

    Save it as "user.cfg"

    You cannot have user.cfg.txt
enable "View Extentions of Known File Types" from Folder Options in Control Panel

Put it in your PvZ directory
\\Origin Games\Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare

  • Thanks again for the quick reply. I tried disabling all services besides microsoft in the msconfig and the game runs normally again. So it looks like one of those programs was conflicting. I had tried to meddle with msconfig before but did not notice the MS only button, so I had no network. Thanks again wootcandy. You are a hero.
