If you click the little arrow for the drop down just below "offline" you should get a remove button. It'll look like this then:

It's not the most noticeable arrow that's for sure, I had some trouble myself. Glad we got it sorted now though.

@markall42 if you have not started a chat with that '' friend '' of your list, you can see a big X, click there and delete.
If you have already started a conversation, you must enter the chat, and then click on the little arrow, like as they show in the images.
The removal system remains exactly the same.
