Re: GW1 Rewards Shutdown???

Apparently EA isn't very good at sharing information. Trust me, you aren't the first to have this problem. (Though, I really hope EA finally takes notice and you are the last.)
To my knowledge the program was shut down because of a technical issue. Rumor is it had something to do with performance but, I have my doubts. I did some digging into the Unicorn Chomper when I found out I missed it. This is only a guess and I doubt EA would ever admit to it but, I think it was shut down due to a bug in the transfer system. Anyone with rank 313 in GW1 could start the backyard and anyone who they invited in could unlock the chomper. (Even in the guest never even played GW1.) This lead to services selling the chomper for cheap and able to sell dozens per day. I doubt EA liked this and unless they reworked the transfer process they couldn't patch it. So, my guess is they let it run out and don't intend to bring it back. Then again, as usual, this is only a guess and unless EA feels like being transparent with customers, we won't get an answer.

Yes, you can reach 5455 without the transfer promotion. Anytime there is a Super Mixed Mode in the town hall, all event specific classes will be available with all variants unlocked. For example, if it was Chompers vs Scientist (this happened awhile back) you could play as the Unicorn Chomper but also Disco Chomper, Computer Scientist or any other variant you haven't unlocked. You simply need to start a match and select the character you want. You will only be able to see and customize the variant in the mystery portal, never the customization booth in the backyard. Also, the classes allowed in each event changes each time. The one that ended yesterday was GW2 Zombies vs GW1 Plants so it may be awhile before it cycles back to chompers.
Also, you can promote them as normal. You will see an arrow over a blank space in the proper section. (Unicorn Chomper with Chompers etc.) For some reason when you reach the gem rank (I forget the technical term, Super Elite?) a pot or grave will appear but without a bobble head. This changes to diamond when you master the class. (I don't know if it is a glitch or not but, I am glad it is there.) Also, while you can't customize it in the backyard you can still see its stats with the others. Finally, if you earn a spot on the high score board (for example most first strikes) with a variant you don't have, it still appears on the board. (For me both after vanquish taunts and first strike is currently Unicorn Chomper.)
Hope that helps. I know its bad news but, you are not alone. EA could have handled the promotion much better.
