Re: I cant play Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2

I had the crashing problem also, the game would start to load, it would then give me an error (it still does!), and then the game would crash right after it started.

I had to mess with it a LOT to find a set of drivers and such that would work. The EA staff I live chatted with, BOTH of them, were useless in helping me. I went from windows 8.1, to 10, then down to 8 before I found a set of drivers that worked.

Basically, I use windows 8 now (which I'm cool with). I use windows 8, because in 8.1 the Catalyst Control Center stops working, and you have to download * drivers that just cause the game to crash.

What you want to do, is get new video drivers, and then set everything to maximize performance for both video cards. You know you have good drivers when it doesn't crash the game. But, you'll then have a problem of it not recognizing your keyboard/mouse. There again, the EA live chat people were WORTHLESS. Once you get to that point, the fix is easy....

Start the game, the video will start playing, at that point, alt+tab out, and open your device manager (right click the bottom lefthand side of your desktop on the start, or in windows 8, where the start would normally be, it gives up a menu, select device manager). At that point, select Display Adapter, then double click your radeon video card. Now, go back into the game, and your game will work. I don't know why, but after days of trying over 50 drivers, and 3 different versions of Windows OS's, that was the ONLY way I was able to get it to work.

So, now, your goal is to find a driver that will allow it to start. This is a SOFTWARE problem, pure and simple. PvZGW2 does NOT like Intel/Radeon combos software.

I have a Intel HD 4000 card, and a AMD Radeon HD 8730m card. For those, or close to that, you could try windows 8, and then look for these drivers....

Intel: 9.17.10.2867

AMD Radeon HD 8730m: 9.0.12.0

Out of about 50 driver attempts, 50 per video card, those were the only ones I found that worked, but ONLY on windows 8. Again, windows 8.1 kills the catalyst control center for the radeon, making it impossible to maximize the performance.

But, this is a SOFTWARE PROBLEM, NOT a hardware problem! Don't believe the haters.

rishiraj07, no, you have window's 8.1 according to your dxdiag. For some reason, window's 8.1 makes the older catalyst drivers stop functioning. But in windows 8, those older drivers still work properly, and it interacts with the game better. I had to do a factory reset to get to windows 8, actually, I did a reset twice. It took quite a bit of time, and know-how to get it to eventually work.

But, I found the EA staff and some of the top posters here completely useless when it came to any kind of actual help. They all say the same thing, it's either hardware, or drivers, every one of them say the same thing, there's some that just blames everyone's hardware over, and over, and over, ad infinitum, then the EA staff sticks to drivers, drivers, drivers, oh, and they'll have you repair the game, lol. What a joke. There's a GLARING hole in the games coding when it comes to Intel/Radeon combo laptops, that neither of those groups will admit to. People can play multiplayer games with higher requirements than PVZGW2 just fine without a hitch, then you come to this game and you have some trolls that spout hardware nonsense, and then the staff that says your drivers that crush's FPS (70+) in games that are more video/cpu intensive than this game aren't up to par for the game.... In short, both of those groups, clueless.

The hell?So should I get a old driver or a new one?

For my system, I've only found the old driver that I listed that worked. Your system is different and may require a different driver. But for me, drivers that are now almost 3 years old have worked the best, but, the same drivers wont work on windows 8.1, because 8.1 for some reason makes catalyst control center stop working =/

Can you tell me how to get Windows 8.1 to Windows 8?

Unfortunately the only way to get down to windows 8 is to do a factory reset of your system, which means losing everything currently on it. If that's what you're willing to do, I can walk you through it. If it's not, then keep trying to find a driver set that will load the game, if you can find drivers that will load the video at the beginning, then you are over the hard part, getting it to recognize the mouse/keyboard after is easy.

I wish they would fix this massive hole in their coding of the game already.

I tried this out and the first time I was actually able to move. For the first time ever I could walk aroud. However I forgot to close so memory heavy programs so I closed the game. After I relaunced the game I did the same steps: Opening device manage-> display adapter-> my card.. and it didn't work anymore :/ I wasn't able to move like all the other times. It's kinda weird first it worked and now it's bugged again. Am I doing something wrong?

Make sure everything is still set to maximized performance, in both video cards programs, and your battery setup. Then try it again. I still have to do the display adapters "trick" every single time to get this game to work properly.

Also remember to do it after the game is started, if you do it prior, it wont work. Load the game, video starts, alt tab, go to display adapters, open radeon card, go back in game.

Ow and btw I'm having this problem with an nvidia card. I think the bug might be for laptops in general :/ Also if you dubbleclick your grafic card a window pops up. Do I have to close it or let it open?

Ah, most nvidia people it works for fine after they maximize performance in both their nvidia programs and their integrated cards software.

As to the window that comes up with your video card information, I close mine after I get it to work, it's never seemed to make a difference before for me.

@EA_David, there has been a conflict among EA sites, and the one quoted by this thread's OP seemed Weird.  Although an HD 7730 is apparently the same general performance as the HD 5750 was, it's actually ended up being more of an OEM part that AFAIK, almost didn't exist in the main retail channels at all.  Admittedly, the HD 7750 was a more potent product, but it appears AMD has more or less mistreated its HD 5000 and HD 6000 customers by cutting them off from new drivers from November onward.

Anyway, it doesn't seem there is any valid HD 7000 choice OTHER than that 7730, leaving the more recent R7 250X as more widely available, like the HD 5750.

    @ExtremeLeNut

The CPU has remained the same all along:  CPU: 3.20 GHz Intel i5 650 or 2.5 GHz AMD Phenom X4 9850

My objection to the changed requirements listing suggested was the comparative rareness of the Radeon HD 7730 while it was in production.  Someone found some new 7730s being sold on Amazon, though.  Anyway, an R7 250X should still be available:

    http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R7-250X-vs-Radeon-HD-5750

Video: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 or AMD Radeon HD 5750 (driver availability conflicts)
    DirectX: 11

These facts do not affect the very low quality video that is the best available from Intel.
