@TheSprinter85Its a conflicting subject as a true gw3 with proper advertising would earn money and could earn back the fan goodwill dumped off a cliff. I want to see the franchise continue with a new game soon but at the same moment any new game announced would be worrisome with the the time gap they announce, work, and realease it if bfn is an example of how they now work and that not many people have gotten new consoles yet.
I want to know what honestly happened with popcaps game design after 2016 with the release of games like overwatch and fortnite as EA is the company that created apex legends to get a slice of that battle royal pie and bfn tries to ditch garden warfare mechanics while also trying to soak up as many fans from the past games to boost player numbers (popcaps own handling of the game was just poor as well even before the pandemic).
Outside of the pvz subreddit such as the Xbox one sub or pvz wiki forums on bfn's cancellation and it was obvious from reading that many people there were garden warfare fans not happy with bfn or not knowing of the games existence. Even now after 5 years gw2 still has more players and fan support in mods.
I think it's safe to say the franchise is entering the dark age and we may recover if popcap gets their act together with pvz 3 onwards or sadly we may stagnate for years before we get games and practically turn into star fox. - Iron_Guard85 years agoLegend
Part of why I keep posting on the forums here and for GW2 is to 'show the flag' as it were and to keep people talking about the games. Obviously, with the shut down of new stuff for BfN and the age of the GW games, the forums aren't exactly hopping but it's good to see people posting and discussing the games.
It looks bad right now, no doubt of that, but PoPCap is still a thing, we can play all 3 shooter still to this day, and the community is still around, even if they seem to be focused on the Reddit. If we keep talking about it, it keeps the games at the front of the mind, and I'm ready to give a new PvZ shooter a shot. Hopefully it launches with more fanfare and in solid shape, and not too far in the future!
- @TheSprinter85 I mean, some people will lose interest in the franchise, but it'd also be very nostalgic for some by then. And it'd probably also get new fans as well.
- @stukapooka Yeah, it's definitely entering its dark ages. PopCap/EA just needs to see that mobile games isn't the right direction for the franchise.
- @Iron_Guard8 Yeah, that 100% helps.
- @Iron_Guard8 Yeah, Reddit has given up on attempting to resurrect BfN & discussion in general & has resorted to coping with memes. The community may be in shambles, but at least they're good memes. And it's alright, I'm expecting more discussion here once a sequel comes out.
Don't let the flame die out! @Vinniebread Very true. Here’s hoping that most of the current fans of the series will remain if and when the series is decided to continue. 🤞

The fact that we can still play the original Garden Warfare, despite it now being 7 years old and having 2 sequels (BfN may not exactly be GW3, but it certainly is meant to be a sequel of some form), and get matches even on PC which has the lowest population (mostly TT of course), is actually amazing. It also proves to EA that there is an audience for the games, which translates into purchases if done right.
I haven't seen all the sales figures but this part of the PvZ franchise has definitely done well. Some YouTubers like Wolfy and Zero have built their YouTube channels almost solely on the GW games, and ZachScott certainly has done well in this regard.
There's a long video discussing the games and their future that features a lot of prominent YouTubers:
I watched this awhile ago and I think it outlines the situation very well. This series of game has touched kids, families, young adults, and old farts like me. I still login to at least GW2 and BfN everyday, even if only for a little bit (although last night was in GW2 for a long time as I had to finish the 'Complete 15 games of Gnome Bomb' epic quest and that takes awhile, even with no bots), but let's be honest, we need a new game with more content, new stuff to do and unlock, and lacks the issues that we see in the current games, much as I love them, they aren't perfect.
Considering how many people love PvZ, it makes more sense from the perspective of EA to make a new game, maybe a bit later than we'd like, but someday in the near future, to make a new shooter. I just hope it is sooner rather than later, has crossplay, is well supported, and brings back what we love while also adding some new stuff to do and enjoy as well.
While I am really used to the current features that we currently have in our GW and BFN games, I would like to see some decent new content, along with returning and existing content in a new shooter. How this could happen is the developers and EA take some of the best content from the current shooters, and put most of it into a new shooter, along with adding some content that others will enjoy. Because so many players enjoy (or enjoyed) the PvZ shooter series, adding some decent replayability to the game would keep players going for a decent period of time. They should do it similar to GW2, where they continue to add content for a while, to the point where it would maybe take long grinds to get everything, but EA could still add some microtranscations so that you could advance faster, if you were willing to pay the money. EA can still make some decent profit, but they should not demand it so much that it is going to stop players from wanting to continue to play the game in the first place.
I really do hope that, I know I may have said this before but I mean it, that we get news regarding whether we may get a new shooter sooner rather than later. Not much news has been leaked since BFN stopped getting support. Even if it is what EA plans to do in current regards to a future new shooter! 😇
