As stated by a couple of other people, the Zombie Team and Plant Team are not intended to mirror each other. While both teams have character classes that fill certain roles those roles are very general and are filled uniquely and require a different playing style. Because of this asymmetry in the classes it's not possible to directly compare one with another and I've noticed that when people try to draw direct comparisons they often get frustrated when the equation doesn't come out equal.
The Husk Hop is very effective in taking out Zombies caught directly in it's path and it's supposed to be. The closest equivalent on the Zombies team is the Ultra-Tackle of the All Star class. I say 'equivalent' because while the two are special abilities which cause the character to travel in a straight line for a set distance while inflicting damage to opponents there are obvious differences.
While the Husk Hop might have a high damage potential but unless you are essentially face to face with the Corn you have the opportunity to either get out of the way or minimize your damage by moving off to the side if you react the moment you realize what is happening. I've done this several times successfully and have been able to get turned around quickly enough to finish off the Corn, who was typically already damaged when they triggered the Husk Hop as a last ditch effort to save themselves; you just don't want to be at point bank range when it launches.
Not being able to counter an ability or not being able to adapt your play style when you are facing a particular character class does not mean that the other guy is over powered.
