We had the same issue occasionally- entering the Mystery Portal as a group would sometimes disband the group and send us all back to our own Backyards.

The unfortunate fact is that server issues seem to increase when the Mystery Portal is active and since they've been ongoing for months I suspect that it's just something we have to occasionally deal with as players.
