Re: PVZ BFN:Crash when opened

I am having this problem as well.
I have tried everything: repairing picnic, cleaning boot, running Origin and PvZ as administrator, updating my drivers, searching compatibility issues, disconnecting my Xbox Controller each time I'm going to open it...nothing works.

The best I can do is having luck, usually when the game denies to open, it just keeps failing for a while until it decides to run.
My PC arrives to the minimum requirements, but not to the recommended ones.
I never have had this problem with GW2, I really hope there is a solution.

  • Hey @BigBoyHumi @lopasi

Thanks for the information you provided.

Can you try doing a clean uninstall/reinstall of Origin?

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/

You can also try creating a new temporary Windows User account, and see if you're able to launch the game under that Account.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account

    Thanks 🙂

Hello, @iluminatethesky I tried both things:

-Creating a temporary Windows user account: I created another account only to do what you said; but, at the first try, the black screen appeared, and it continued on the second try.

-Uninstall/reinstall of Origin with the easy way: I reinstalled Origin and installed again; the 1st time I oppened the game, it worked perfectly. So, I closed it and tried again to see if the problem was definetly solved; sadly, the black screen appeared again. I tried it 8 times to see if it was less common. 3/8 times the game oppened correctly.

In a positive way, it seems that it is less common than before, at least with these 8 attempts, but the problems still being here.

I have seen, in Techincal Issues, that more people have this problem...I'm not sure, but I have seen that people with this problem usually have DirectX12; but, obviously, this is a generalization.

  • Hey @lopasi

Have you tried closing any Background Applications that might be interfering with Origin?

    https://help.ea.com/en/help/origin/origin/programs-that-may-cause-conflicts-with-origin/

You can also tried repairing the "Picnic" File in the EasyAntiCheat folder.

Go to where you have Battle for Neighborville installed, open the EasyAntiCheat folder, and there should be a "EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe" file there. Open that, select the Picnic file from the drop down menu, and click Repair.

Then try running Origin and Battle for Neighborville as Administrator again.

    Thanks 🙂

Hello again, @iluminatethesky, I don't like to say it, but I already have tried all those things: closing Background Applications, repairing the Picnic file, runnning as administrator...but nothing worked.

Today the game worked better than other days. It oppened at the second try in the morning and in the fourth time in the afternoon.

I don't know if it was "luck" or there has been a specific factor, I haven't seen any new or any change today.

Could you tell me if at least the PvZ BfN team is aware of this problem?

I'd be curious if you see any crashes for the game within Windows' Reliability monitor. In Search type in "reliability" and you should get the option to open the tool, you can check it for crash reports focused on BFN/Origin.

Hello, @EA_David, sorry for answering so late.

I saw the Reliability, but there wasn't any indentified crash from BfN or Origin.

Thank you for the info. If you press Ctrl-Shift-Enter when the game starts, do you see any resource use for the game maxing out?

Do you happen to have an alternate hard drive you can install the game to? You'll find the option by clicking Origin > Application Settings > Installs & Saves.
