Server Hosting

I have noticed that my connection is stable and I always ping relatively the same number (low 30’s) with zero packet loss. I had thought that this game had dedicated game play servers rather than individually player hosted matches. This is a HUGE problem.

Anyone (most of you, I’m sure) who hosts while using a device that allows auto fire and auto aiming, (modded controllers or Titan devices do this) ruins the basic gameplay. An example of this is when you play a round and your character is moving incredibly fast for no reason. Someone has adjusted gameplay settings and because they are hosting it broadcasts to everyone else playing. Same thing happens when you have someone who suddenly hits a lag spike while hosting and the game either disconnects or lags to the point of disconnecting. This has made this game a tragic mess for pvp and at times even ops. Sadly, the game defaults to the best connection it can find which usually leaves someone hacking as a host.

Are dedicated gameplay servers a thing of the past? I understand there is a cost of upkeep and maintenance in general, but at least one can control the environment in which the game is played then. At this point players have no classes as I can simply make my tank fire as fast as a rapid fire soldier and automatically target anything that moves on the screen, regardless of range.

This is a game killer for me. No skill other than the scripts that people are writing. Sadly, those who actually write the scripts will never actually get the attention that the child who abuses does.

Hope to see some changes soon.

I have certainly noticed moving super fast all of a sudden for no reason many times in Ops and wondered why.... interesting.
Don't think I'm observant enough to notice these other details.
I'm sure I remember them saying in the very early Founders live streams that Ops would not be hosted locally like GW2 and would have dedicated servers to avoid the issues that GW2 had eg, when the host was disconnected during the game for some reason the game would end for everybody.
    Have they changed this?

Sidenote: Rapid fire Slide? Oh Id like a rapid fire Slide 😃

  • These servers are dedicated?  I know heavy CPU usage can bog down the connection but I assure you we're not playing BA and other PvP modes on each others servers?  Maybe Ops but even then, I don't think we're hosting those?

I do believe the devices can bottleneck connections, to be clear, but I don't think many people are writing scripts... I see rapid fire on Electric Slide, Space Station (pilot), and 80's hero pretty often/obviously, but only suspect scripting to be occasional, at best.

I don't think the scripting is as heavy as you believe but I'm maybe just being naive?

(Goes without saying; all due respect in my comments...)

I also think you shoulda posted this in the general discussion to see whether others have observed similar issues/share this theory.  Not many people read tech forums, just general chat.

Thanks for taking the time to try to improve the game/community, regardless.

  • @spIash_damage There are very easy signals that tell when someone is using auto-aim and or auto fire. These are even able to be seen while watching people stream the game on twitch or YouTube, you just have to know what to look for. I agree that most don’t write scripts, they simply DL what they can find and use that. If they knew how to program, they wouldn’t be doing some of the obvious things that alert to scripting/modding.

The only thing that EA is keeping on its servers is back up information and the basic essentials. Matches are organized through the main server then individually hosted on the best connections. This is a cost cutting measure of server hosting as it saves on the resources needed to host the entire game. If they were dedicated servers, the game would crash completely for everyone on that server every time the host ended gameplay. Obviously this isn’t the case and the game is hosting many individually player run matches and lobby’s.

  • Oh, I've also noticed that! By the way, don't you think that you can create your own server? I've been really into creating sites and I've also thought creating a server would be a great idea. Creating sites is tough task for me, however when it comes to hosting services , I guess, I'm already an expert. My first experience was with hostingfoundry.com and I'm really grateful. I received a top 5 of hostings for a specific type and they actually explained me how it works. Moreover, it is available not only in UK, so it'd be useful for people from different countries.
