Yup!! That super brainz spin attack is REALLY pissing me off. If it's meant to be a one-hit kill like the foot soldiers rocket or bean bomb then okay, though it doesn't feel like that. It just feels like an attack, but one that due to the game's poor design, doesn't allow you to get away from it. You are literally stuck there being pummeled to death. Like you said, I was playing as the pea shooter too, in hyper mode, and was completely helpless. And then to top it off, the bean bomb that the pea throws out doesn't kill super brainz while he's spinning...WTF?!?! Soooooo many unbalancing issues and bugs and glitches in this game.
I'm wondering if a lot of the issues with this game are because of Mirror's Edge. If you recall, that game was supposed to come out last month and PvZ later this year. Then they swapped release dates, because EA felt ME needed more development time. But it looks like they weren't the only ones. It's really regrettable that they didn't just give both games the time they needed, rather than have one suffer at the expense of the other. It just hurts the game devs. and the franchise in the end.
Super brainz is quite annoying if you allow him to get close to you but there is a few ways to stop him. Because he is already very slow you can easily get distance between you and him if he already used his kick ability. If he is spinning (quite annoying) if there is a citron nearby a E.M. peach can cancel him out of it and allows you to retreat. If theres no citron nearby quick constant damage will hurt him alot if hes spinning even if its barely anything. Chompers counter super brainz with goop and spikeweed making him unable to do anything. Also stay near sunflowers and roses as they can keep you alive and suppress him.
Super Brainz is powerful, yet is also ONE OF THE EASIEST CLASSES IN THE GAME TO COUNTER/SHUTDOWN.
