So now there's 3, 20 bulb cost items in the February map?!

Others have been reporting that gone are the days of 10 bulb legendary hats/skins and they have now updated prize maps to have 3 items that cost 20 bulbs? Why?!

I took a brief look at the Prize Map when my son logged on after school today and I was disappointed in what I saw.

For one, they have restructured the route through the Prize Map so that it looks like it now costs more Bulbs to get to the end since they eliminated the ability to rapidly advance across the bottom route. Now the restructured route forces you to weave through a longer route. This isn't really a huge problem if you managed to be able to complete a good portion of the Map previously as you'll probably still reach the costume/upgrade combo at the end in what I estimate to be twice the amount of time you could before.

I also see that they doubled the Bulb cost of the more noteworthy costumes along the way. that's definitely going to affect a lot of people and their ability to finish the Prize Map and I strongly suspect that this is another FOMO psychological tactic to drive people towards spending real world money to purchase Prize Bulbs to get everything before the Prize map goes away since these cosmetics and costumes truly seem to be available only from the Maps and it's likely that anything you miss will be gone at least until the Prize Maps repeat- assuming that we will see the identical Maps every year (assuming we're all still playing after 12 months).

EDIT: I've had a chance to get hands on with the Prize Map and between the 50 Bulbs I was carrying from the last Festival, finishing the first Character Challenge (Acorn), the two daily challenges and the handful of Bulbs earned through XP while I did those I was able to get 20/42 places into the Map so it may not take much longer to get to the end for the Costume and Upgrade. In practice it looks like the 20 Bulb cosmetics are at dead-ends so that they don't appear to act as roadblocks to progressing down the map (and since most people would detour around these initially anyway). The real grind will be finishing the entire thing with the extra Bulb cost added into the total.

One thing I noticed is that the first time they DID add something that changes gameplay, they made it even harder to get and then advertised prize bulbs on the prize map. Seems like p2w, even though you can earn it without real money.

@PineapplePiano  I suppose that's just because it's not a cosmetic! It's an upgrade that could be a gamechanger - rather than a customisation that doesn't provide combat advantage! 🙂

Has Popcap said anything about giving us 30 bulbs to compensate for the awful bulb pricing in this months map or are they just going to ignore us?

@linger4606I guess they are not going to compensate anything this month. They decided to increase the amount of Bulbs needed, so it won't make any sense for them to gift Bulbs in return.
It's PopCaps solution for the complaints wasting Bulbs once the players hit maximum.

    @ippig
If that's the case and the real reason they increased the bulbs then its just silly as this does literally nothing to address the "bulb" situation,
and to be honest I don't think there is much they can do about excess bulbs now. To increase the bulbs needed to complete the map as a solution is only going to further alienate those struggling to complete the map already and would be very unfair.
I think the increase in bulbs is more likely to be due to the legendary upgrade that is available this month... but I guess we will need to wait and see in the next few months, how and if the total bulbs needed rises or falls.
I have given up concerning myself with excess bulbs and am much more interested in them giving us something to do with excess coins and other currencies. Preferably a exchange.... coins for rainbow stars 🤞
The sheer amount of issues and bugs in the game on a daily basis, coupled with the amount of coins/currencies people are gathering with literally nothing to spend them on and the "slow drip" way to earn rainbow stars in game I think could, in the end, be the final nail in the coffin for some folk.

  • @ippigYes, agree there won't be any kind of bulb compensation. It would be hilarious though, if they were trying to adjust the map for excess bulbs whilst continuing to ignore the coin situation - unless they're planning on making new characters available the month after the prize map for 10,000,000 or something ludicrous!!

@asabaidaYes, I really think you're right. Currency & customisations on top of all the continuing bugs, unbalanced characters & teams, 8 vs 8, no further improvements to Ops, frustrating weekly challenges and / or events is too much.

With the prize map, I don't understand why EVERY month, not just this one, has taken a different amount of bulbs to complete. If the amounts were consistent each month, it would help players work out the amount of hours they need to put in.

And I sadly think this is actually the least motivating prize map we've had.
There seem to be fewer & fewer actual costume pieces each time (& I don't think the ones this time are particularly exciting) & more silly pics & speech that I'll never use.

For the first time, I'm actually wondering if I care enough about what's on there to work my way through the map & am seriously considering just buying the upgrade with rainbow stars next month, if at all.
