Party variants are meant to be different not stronger than all the other character in general. For example, computer scientist has crunch mode which is a very nice feature that rewards getting on a kill streak by enabling a thermal view alongside increased speed and hp. However, its primary weakness is its fire rate, lack of aoe capacity, and the fact that it is high risk high reward class. This doesn't change the fact that it is still very much a viable character if not oped in the right hands.
My point being that you should be wanting any variant to domiant one another because you'll end up with another rose situation where people just monopolize on one class and nothing else. This leads to people complaining on forums and ultimately a migration away from multiplayer overall.
Anyways that's just my view on things, have a good day.
The only reason I want the Party variants now is for completion sake.
However with infinity mode being tedious, buggy as all hell and quite the mess they can wait.
Party variants are weaker now than the normal variants. If you are going to nerf them this bad, why even have them at all?
I expect future Legendary variants to be more unique than the party variants. Also I'm only talking about the Party variants being obsolete, the more interesting variants like the Computer Scientist are how Legendaries should be if you are going this route.
Like you I definitely don't want to see OP characters, I'm just trying to understand why you have IT characters this boring to get and now pretty weak.
It's just like I said before, now you have to do the same thing for less reward.
Not say I won't keep grinding away at sometime jumping through the hoops to get these characters, because I like a challenge. However challenges should be difficult but fun, IT is not that bad to do, but it's ever so boring to do.
