It’s just to locate players behind walls or obstructions. Does no damage whatsoever but it is useful. In tight quarters you can throw it to see who’s around the corner. If there’s 3 scientist and a super brainz, then you’ll probably want to turn around and run. If you didn’t throw the beacon, then you just would of run into a world of hurt.
