My character tips for Acorn and Oak are as follows. For the upgrade names and stats, I used the PvZ Wiki link as attached here: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Acorn. Acorn and Oak's challenges can take some time and can prove to be somewhat difficult, which is why I am covering their challenge tips first. I am going to explain how you can complete your challenges in many situations and game modes. If I don't mention something, then I do not consider it as effective enough to complete in that game mode or situation, if that makes sense. Anyway, without further ado, my personal challenge tips are as follows:
Earn 5,000 XP as Acorn and Oak.
- Use the "Levelling Up" upgrade to receive 10% more XP from all actions.
- 2-3 full and successful games of Ops and/or Skirmishes should give you this challenge.
- Any action that you can go out of your way for to receive XP: do it! Examples include vanquishing, assists, reviving and so on.
- Do not panic too much about completing this challenge: you should earn this one before you complete all of your others.
- PvP is a good choice for completing this challenge, player vanquishes give decent XP.
Deal 3,500 Damage with Primary Weapons.
This challenge requires you to use any of the following Primary: either Shell Shot (Acorn), Wood Grief (Oak) or Treetop Turret (Acorn Passenger). You use one of these weapons to deal a total of 3,500 damage. No vanquishes needed. You can use either weapon you like to deal damage in any way you like.
Tips
- Skirmishes, Ops and Free-roam Fights: Use your primary weapons to deal lots of damage to enemies. Use Oak's Wood Grief if your enemies are clustering for explosive firepower.
- Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: Use your primary weapons to deal as much damage as possible to enemies.
- Bosses and Boss Fights: Use your primary weapons to deal as much damage as you can. You should be able to deal large amounts of damage due to their large health pool and they should be easy to hit.
- PvP Modes: Use Shell Shot if you need rapid fire damage. Use Wood Grief if your enemies are clustering and/or you need explosive firepower. Try to target enemies with larger amounts of health and/or that have bigger hitboxes; you should be able to deal a lot of damage and to hit them easily.
Useful Upgrades
- Little Friend (2 upgrade points): Your Shell Shot and Wood Grief can hold more ammo, and your Treetop Turret overheats more slowly. This is useful for racking up your damage faster without having to reload or overheat as often.
- Quickdraw (3 upgrade points): By using your Acorn Dash, you gain more ammo for your Shell Shot. This is useful if you are playing as Acorn as you can use Acorn Dash to get to a better location, then keep shooting with constant fire at your enemies.
- Nutty Feedback (4 upgrade points): By dealing damage with Shell Shot, you gain more Shell Shot ammo. This is really useful when you are successfully dealing damage as Acorn as you can maintain constant damage.
Vanquish 100 Enemies with Sap Traps. #
This challenge requires you to get 100 vanquishes on enemies with a whooping 100 Sap Traps. Now, this means you must use your Sap Trap to get a vanquish, and direct damage is only dealt if it is close to the enemy. That said, it counts if you use the Acorn's Sap Trap or if you use the Oak's Super Sap Trap as well, which deals more damage. Now, while this challenge could take a while to complete overall, you can detonate the Traps when you like so you can damage enemies with them. You can quickly jump between Oak and Acorn forms in order to fire more Sap Traps at your enemies more quickly. Upgrades that reset your ability cooldowns faster are also really useful as you can use both of your Sap Traps more often. I suggest using your Primary fire, or Roll for Damage, to weaken your enemies, then vanquish them with Sap Traps.
Tips
- Ops, Skirmishes and Free-roam Fights: Use your Sap Traps against clusters of enemies. In Ops, you could let enemies build up around the garden first, then use your Sap Trap. Damage and weaken enemies as required. You can transform into and out of Oak and Acorn as required.
- Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: Use it to try and vanquish an enemy. If you do not place the Sap Trap in a good location, you can wait for an enemy to approach it, then detonate it.
- Bosses and Boss Fights: When the boss is on really low health, vanquish them using Sap Trap.
- Giddy Park (Private with Al): Use your Sap Trap on a TV Head in Giddy, then detonate it. If you do this strategically, you can vanquish multiple with it.
- PvP Modes: Use it on clusters of enemies when possible. When possible as well, use Oak's Super Sap Trap as it is really powerful when it connects with an opponent. Also attempt to use the Sap Traps on weakened enemies to try and vanquish them. You could also place the Sap Trap around a corner, then detonate it when a Zombie gets near. Remember, you can transform in and out of Acorn and Oak form to take advantage of both Sap Traps.
Useful Upgrades
- Molasses (2 upgrade points). Only applies to Oak's Super Sap Trap. It greatly slows down enemies who get near your Sap Trap, meaning you can get vanquishes more easily with it when Zombies are near it.
- Slap Back (2 upgrade points). Only applies to Acorn's Sap Trap. Knock enemies further away when enemies are hit by your Sap Trap, this is useful if you do not manage to vanquish your enemy.
- Rewind (3 upgrade points). Only applies to Acorn's Sap Trap. When you fail to deal damage with your Sap Trap, it refreshes faster which allows you to use it more often.
Land Multiple Hits on Enemies with One Roll for Damage 35 Times. #
This challenge requires you to use your Roll for Damage ability as Oak to damage multiple enemies using a single one. This needs to be done 35 times. However, there is a catch. If you damage the same enemy more than once in your single Roll for Damage usage, this will count towards your challenge. This also counts if you hit more than one enemy, once or more, with a single use of Roll for Damage. Fortunately, your Roll for Damage ability refreshes quickly, so you can use it quite often. You do not need to get vanquishes for this challenge.
Tips
- Ops, Skirmishes and Free-roam Fights: Use your Roll for Damage against closely clustered enemies. If they are crowding your Garden in Ops, seize your opportunity.
- Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: Use it if your enemies closely cluster.
- Giddy Park (Private with Al): Allow TV Heads to clump together, then use your Roll for Damage against them.
- PvP Modes: If your enemies cluster, use a Roll for Damage against them. Unaware enemies can be hit multiple times from Roll for Damage, so try and use it from behind enemies or if they are not paying attention. Use it in crowded, thin areas like corridors, when there are enemies and they most likely will not be able to avoid it.
Useful Upgrades
- Log Jam (1 upgrade point). Your Roll for Damage covers a wider area, meaning you are more likely to hit multiple enemies with it.
- Natural 20 (2 upgrade points). Enemies you hit with Roll for Damage are knocked back, meaning you can potentially hit enemies more than once with it.
Heal Allies 30 Times with Lumber Support. #
This challenge requires you to be an Acorn Passenger and use your Lumber Support 30 or more times in order to heal the Oak driver. For this reason, finding Al allies to hitch a ride on or other Oak players and healing them is necessary. Note that with this challenge, the Oak does not have to be healed, rather you just need to activate Lumber Support 30 times. So, whenever it recharges for you, you can simply use it for it to count towards this challenge. Also, if you have another friend or player playing alongside you, you can get them to Oak up, then jump on as a passenger, and then repeatedly heal them.
Tips
- Skirmishes: If an ally Oak appears, hop onto them and use Lumber Support whenever possible.
- Battle Chests: Use ally Oaks you find to your advantage, hop on them and continually Lumber Support them.
- Giddy Park (Public): If there is another Oak player, jump onto them and repeatedly heal them. It may annoy them but I'm sure they will understand.
- PvP Modes: If there is an Oak player, hop on them and heal them whenever possible. Provide as much firepower as you can to try and avoid the Oak from being vanquished.
Useful Upgrades
- Party Supplies (3 upgrade points): You heal yourself and the Oak at a faster rate, which improves the Oak's survivability (and yours), meaning you can heal more.
- Hardened (3 upgrade points): You have more health, improving your survivability while you heal and giving yourself more potential healing.
So, hopefully these challenge tips that I provided helps out. The Sap Trap challenge will most likely take the longest to complete so always keep that in mind when doing the challenges for Acorn and Oak - whenever an opportunity pops out to do so, take it! Clustered enemies will help with most of these challenges so try and play game modes where there are generally lots of enemies and/or tend to cluster a lot. With the healing challenge, you want to find an Oak, so you may need to call on a friend - in which case you can really quickly do the challenge - or find some in PvP! Or ask someone on the forum. Anyway, bye now, hope this guide was helpful! 👍
