The account-compromising exploit has resurfaced.

In pretty much the exact same fashion when account compromising in PvZ GW2 happened last year, exploiters have once again started flagging the anti-cheat system of certain accounts and having them banned. (This flag is activated through the exploiter manipulating character XP, which shouldn't be possible as game data progress is supposed to only be server-sided. This perhaps means that exploiters are able to manipulate server data, and all they need is an account name [as players have been banned whilst streaming]).

The anti-cheat update a while back for the game was almost immediately invalidated and bypassed completely, but at least the account-bricking was quelled manually with fixes for when it occurred. I truly hope that the accounts that have been banned by the exploiters recently can be fixed with not much fuss in the same way they had been before, but if not then this poses a serious problem if an alternative fix is not possible.

If it is decided that nothing can be done, or there won't be the commitment to fix this once again, I very strongly suggest in all seriousness that:

The anti-cheat update be undone (as it [for its whole lifespan, bar the day it came out] has no actual anti-cheating effect, and makes lower-end PCs run less smoothly).

The system for flagging and banning accounts is deactivated (this will prevent the catastrophic consequences of this exploit and if it ever decided to return in the future). In addition, any actual cheater never gets banned by the in-game system because it doesn't flag the Frostbite mods/cheats, only tries to prevent them from working; it's time that it is acknowledged that that system only allows for the exploiters to cause such damage and outage to the game, as it is once again no longer safe to play the game online.

I find that this is the only logical solution to this problem if there will be no commitment to further anti-cheat measures. This is a practical 'the least you could do' compromise that would be very easy compared to something more full-scale. This would however still leave exploiters open to manipulating character XP so this is not ideal.

Many have no confidence in EA to fix this, but the people employed (such as those on these forums) share their care for the game. That now needs to be shown in their actions as well. A strong response to this right now, to strike while the iron is hot, to communicate that you all are aware of the issue, is the best first step. After that, it is in EA's very capable hands.

Thanks.

  • This is unacceptable. EA can put the effort to actually patch this exploit out but they still successfully haven't for over a year, and the entire PC playerbase continues to suffer because of EA's neglect for the games.

  • I'm surprised nobody has filed a single class action thingamajig.

I find it difficult to believe that for so long, companies actively selling defective products as well as individuals deliberately creating or applying destructive mods have never been held accountable in this day and age.
