Thoughts on Backyard Battleground.

I have been lurking these forums since PvZGW1. Also, have played both games to death. I know this is my first post but I really wanted to share my point of view about this.

In PvZGW2 Backyard Battlegrounds, I have always felt something was missing from this very awesome mode of play. That thing was a way to know who won the battle. Capture the flag would be the perfect fit as an optional game mode. It the perfect map for it. You could go the flag of power and have the choice to either play the King of the hill mode or Capture the Flag. that way for those the like to just level there toons without any stress still may do so.

Thoughts and opinions?

Thank you for your time,

Tim

  • It would be a cool feature to have if you could have more than 4 people in your backyard.

  • I would love a game of tag to play like freeze, manhunt, etc. where you or your friends can use the backyard to your advantage. Or a forge-like mode where you can manipulate the backyard while your friends try to dip and weave through the obstacles/challenges you create.

One of the developers dropped a hint in an interview that the next game (assuming it comes to fruition) will include a true campaign mode. So I think we can expect innovations in the single player experience in general, and by extension whatever will be the equivalent of the backyard battleground.

The backyard is a huge improvement over the menu interface of the first game.  I believe that Popcap is happy with the result of their work on it, and I would hope that it would be part of a future installment and expanded upon in some manner.

Excellent suggestions here.  People generally like playing in the backyard, and would do so even more if there were more things to do in it.  As is, the backyard is compelling for a while, but pretty limited in feel once one has played for a long time.

  • I LOVE the Backyard Battleground. It's so good I wish more games had such a thing but I agree it needs more.  More minigames, more events, more participation, more AI, more places for decorations, more things! Imagine opening it up for free-for-all battles with a dozen players a side, bosses, AI spawning, all over fighting for control of the flag of power or battling in that soccer field in the back of the plant zone. The possibilities are massive and I never understood why they gave us such an awesome thing but never developed it to its full potential.

As a long time MMO player I wish more MMOs copied this idea for their worlds. I find it amusing that a shooter has a more lively ecosystem in the backyard battleground than any MMO I've ever played. The constant spawning and battles, the increased count of champions and bosses when you get too close to an enemy base, the AI chasing you into the sewers, it's just great. But as Oliver Twist said: "May I have some more please?"
